To be honest I really haven't got a problem with this if this is true. Whoever is signed now, will be playing bench warmer to Lukaku for the rest of the season.

I'd like a deal done with Batshuayi now though and leave him at Standard for the rest of the season if that's what they want.

Risky to just leave it until the summer when loads of clubs will be interested.

I'd be quite happy knowing this kid will be our player in the summer, and Jones is a cheap cover for Lukaku this year.

What frightens me though, is that Martinez sees Kone as our main striker next year, and Jones will be his back up.

Kone and Jones is a frightening prospect and not in a good way.

Apparently his shift to Hull is buckling due to a fee not being agreed, but Long is also saying he'll stay at WBA if need be. If Everton came in he'd be off like a shot I think.

Not convinced he can get us the goals in sufficient quantity though. He's a grafter, but nowhere near top notch.
 
although i'm 100 percent sure we're not in for him i'd genuinly rather give up my season ticket for the time kenwyne jones was here than watch him steal a living.

Worse than Jelavic.

Thats very risky. Best to get the deal done now IMO as competition will be big in the summer.

You also run the risk of him tearing the league up and scoring goals all over the place and Standard adding millions to his valuation.

If Standard are happy to deal now, but keep the player on loan I'd go for that tbh.
 

There is something in this Jones enquiry sadly.

We've probably made loads of approaches to players but we have done to Jones I now know that for certain. How strong it is I haven't got a clue.
 
I,d take long over Jones every day if we wanted a backup short term solution.

What concerns me again is that here we are in another transfer window when the team are flying in the league and cup and yet we cannot seem to get our act together and add the quality we need to the squad to give ourselves a chance of a top 4 finish or cup final.

There's still time yet mate, no one has signed anyone apart from us.

Martinez has had 1 window and absolutely nailed it, probably had a better window than any other club.

It will all kick off soon.

As we'd be buying out the lad from liege, frankly we should say **** them if they want him on loan, get the lad here and see what he's made of as backup to lukaku and play the guy, rather that than sign a long or jones who we know isnt good enough, as for bench warmer to lukaku, it may do him good to not have to play a full 90 every game and to have someone hungry their to keep him on his toes

Buying in Jan is always tough mate

You're always paying above the odds for people and you can get seriously fleeced. We have some money to spend but we have to be very careful when we buy someone as we have considerably less to spend than the clubs we're competing with
