Silly Season January 2014

It's not about the results though is it? It's about the sea change in style and attitude.

More than one journo has said that we've played the best footy they've seen this year. Did anyone say that about Moyes' Everton in 11 years?

+1 true dat. Also we're five points better off on what was for us under moyes one of our better starts and we've been unlucky not to be more (first three games all draws, whilst implementing the new style without lukaku etc) Couple that with the fact that we have got genuine belief in the team amongst most of the fans with an attractive attacking style and it all makes the comments of the poster you quoted seem like a right negative nancy doesn't it mate. NSNO!

I'd rather have Wanyama. Was outstanding for saints until he got injured.

That is a very subjective statement.

Mate of mine is a season ticket holder and we've talked about this guy at great length as he seems to divide their fanbase. Basically, when the other team has the ball, Wanyama is world class. Energy, power, tackling, stamina - you name it, he's got it. When his team have the ball though, he is Championship standard at best. His pass completion stats at Saints support this.

Not a player I'd fancy in our passing side.

Heard exactly the same from my Saints mates about Wanyama.

Martinez statement on OS re striker and Jelavic sale

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2014/01/15/blues-target-new-striker

Roberto Martinez has confirmed he is targeting a new striker as Nikica Jelavic prepares to move to Hull City.

Martinez expects the Croat’s proposed move to Humberside to be completed and admitted recruiting a replacement forward is on his agenda this month – although the arrival of Aiden McGeady has already bolstered his attacking options.

He told evertonfc.com: “What is important is that Aiden McGeady arriving has given us a bit more strength in the wide areas and there are many flexible players who can fill in to that number nine position.

“But it (attack) would be an area that we are looking at before the window closes. We are looking at the options to see if there is a player with the right profile who would fit into the squad.”

The Goodison chief has reiterated that Hull’s offer for Jelavic was accepted in order to meet the striker’s wish to secure regular football ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

He added: “We agreed the deal and it was down to Nikica to make his decision. I do believe when I spoke to Niki that he was clear that he wanted to join Hull. He felt he would get the opportunity to play the games he needs ahead of the World Cup so, in my eyes, I think the deal is going to happen, even though it is not sealed and signed at the moment."
