Martinez statement on OS re striker and Jelavic sale

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2014/01/15/blues-target-new-striker

Roberto Martinez has confirmed he is targeting a new striker as Nikica Jelavic prepares to move to Hull City.

Martinez expects the Croat’s proposed move to Humberside to be completed and admitted recruiting a replacement forward is on his agenda this month – although the arrival of Aiden McGeady has already bolstered his attacking options.

He told evertonfc.com: “What is important is that Aiden McGeady arriving has given us a bit more strength in the wide areas and there are many flexible players who can fill in to that number nine position.

“But it (attack) would be an area that we are looking at before the window closes. We are looking at the options to see if there is a player with the right profile who would fit into the squad.”

The Goodison chief has reiterated that Hull’s offer for Jelavic was accepted in order to meet the striker’s wish to secure regular football ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

He added: “We agreed the deal and it was down to Nikica to make his decision. I do believe when I spoke to Niki that he was clear that he wanted to join Hull. He felt he would get the opportunity to play the games he needs ahead of the World Cup so, in my eyes, I think the deal is going to happen, even though it is not sealed and signed at the moment."

Uh oh!

This bit from Martinez's statement:

...looks like a face saver if or when he turns up again back at Goodison.

I reckon the owners threat to Hull there in the background is scuppering this deal. If so, we are not getting any striker in this window.

Yeah they are waiting on a work permit apparently. Assume we'll move for a striker once jelavic moves.

'Undisclosed fee' they're trying to muddy the waters on exactly how much is spent on players this window as opposed to sales.

You forget we will have money to spend, our Friend at Vibrac will loan us 25 million against the Sky for 2.5 million, instead of 15 Million for 1.25 million.

We will be quids in, get the bunting out chaps.
