Silly Season January 2014

If we got Jones for less than £1m, that is not a bad signing as a temporary solution. Essentially, he will be back up for 1st team, and play the same role Jelavic has for the majority of this season, but we will be £5-6m better off.

A lot of people had completely lost faith in Jelavic because of a bad year and a bit, and everyone agreed it was probably best for everyone he moved on, especially given the money we got for him. So if Jones comes in and plays as many minutes as Jelavic did, and scores as many goals, what have we really lost?

We could even be just what be needs to reinvigorate his career. Like a Rideout, Hutchison, Campbell type signing (im not saying hes as good as any of them BTW).

At the end end of the day, if we get him cheap, and he does do well, it will be a great signing. If we get him cheap and he doesn't set the world alight, we could still sell him and potentially make a profit, like with Beckford.

But seriously, what purpose will criticising him do before we've even actually bid for him, let alone before hes wore the shirt.

Im sure we'd all rather spend £20 on a Negredo or someone, but thats not going to happen this month, and if Martinez thinks signing a player to play backup for what will essentially be 4 months, so he can save his money and go for his real target in the summer (Lukaku? Rooney?), is it really such a bad thing?

A far too sensible post, sod off:lol:

Rodriques from Southampton would be my first choice -
scored just 1 less goal than Lukaku and would fit in much better with his quick feet and agility -
instead of Jones - rather give me a retread Berbatov - he is more capable of making a comeback -
I have not seen Rhodes enough to make a call

Gotta laugh at all the wanabee managers on here..... they questioned the appointment of martinez, they questioned Barry and Kone but judgment has to be reserved on him...

I am confident our man will get it right and if he fancies KJ I trust him... doubters stick to FM please and go and moan elsewhere

"Doubters" of Kenwyne Jones are not basing their opinions on FM mate. They're people who actually watch football and notice a ****e player when they see one. We all love Martinez and it is clear he's taking us in the right direction, however that doesn't mean he is infallible. He is human and can make mistakes just like the rest of us. Kenwyne Jones would NOT be a success at Everton, he hasn't been a success anywhere else he's played, in the Premier League at least. I trust Bobby to not sign Jones. He must realise he is ****. If he signs him, there is no part of me that thinks that will turn out to be a good signing

What would everyone think if Martinez decided he now sees Mirallas as a striker and not a winger anymore?

Depends on the circumstances.

If we went out and signed a £15m winger and Bobby came out and said it's all cool I'm going to play Kev up front. We've tried him there in training, he's smashed it in Greece and I think he will get 20+ goals next year.... I'd be all for it.

If we went out and spent £15m on a centre forward and Bobby said... We've got no chance of keeping Rom, Belg Kev and *new striker are our two main strikers for next year. I'd be content.

If Bobby turns round and says listen chaps, I've got some cash here, but I'm pretty sure we are getting Rom on a perm come the summer, so I'm going with Rom and Kev as my striking options for the next 5 years. I'd be delighted.

Anything similar to the above regarding Paco and Ince. Rodrigez, Deulofeu and A.Loanee I'd be pleased with.

However. If Bobby ends the window with the squad as it stands and he's got that papering over the cracks face on, smiling thru the pain. I would not be pleased. I would take it that the cash has gone. That the board have failed to deliver on another promise (got a few quid for you here Bobby). And I would expect Bob to either resign his post or go at the earliest opportunity. Either that or sign a 75k a week deal and tell everyone Bill is a top fella.
