Silly Season January 2014

People talk about wages, is that not a worry for anyone?

Basically we pay more the likes of Baines and we can justify that. But then it means no matter how much money we have in the bank we cannot add to the squad?

That is relegation business if i ever saw it. Have less players who are better on higher wages or more players who arent as good on lower wages. It is impossible to have great players on small wages because of the obvious problem that creates. It also means that we will always have a small squad and therefore would take a bloody miracle for us to achieve anything league wise.

football is a business and that is the way it works sadly. Kone on his 35 grand or Aguero on his 100 odd grand, who is better?

Martinez attitude in that press conference has disappointed me. Everyone knows that our squad is small and we need to add. It shouldn't rely on Heitinga going out because we needed two players even with him here.

It's suicide to go into the rest of the season without adding one or two more.

One of these reporters should have pressed him: 'Roberto, you mentioned money was not a problem earlier this month; but are you now having to wait to bring in another player on the outgoing of John Heitinga?'

Surely we have to get another forward in. Traore may be out for 2 weeks, then probably only fit from the bench, then he has to bed in to the style of the league.

With Lukaku likely out for a few weeks too, we can't be left with no fit strikers for this long when we mathematically can still get 4th (I know we won't)
Young Connor McAlney Just Asking ?

If we don't get anyone in then that tells me that Martinez has more than likely written our chances of 4th off this season and is only looking to next season.

In my opinion that's the wrong attitude but hey, what do I know? He obviously must think it's better for him to wait and have a "warchest" of sorts in the summer. Let's see eh.

We have 25M in new investment (from tv) and we have the trading surplus on players - all not mentioned in these accounts because they are from the previous year...but it's in play now. The CEO is not at all bothered by the ratios of wage to revenue. Bottom line: the wage situation is under control and fine and we have the cash to cover any increase of 4M p.a. (which we are allowed to increase wages by under new rules before wages must be met from non-tv source revenue).

I still think we will sign someone before deadline day is over.

It's not like Roberto would come out to the press and say he's looking for someone and drive all the prices up/attract other clubs interest!

I base this positive speculation on absolutely nothing.

As it is silly season 'formerly' here is a silly notion....

We have money to spend on a new player, preferably a midfielder and he is rather good. However we can spend the money on him but can't commit to his wages until Johnny goes. Ergo big signing we want, just need to balance the wages first.
