Man United are the weakest on paper of the 'big 6' but even then they have players like De Gea, Pogba, Rashford, Martial, Maguire and Wan Bissaka.

Why do you think you are any better than West Ham who have Haller, Lanzini, Anderson, Yarmalenko, Rice, Fornals etc? Be realistic. There's a lot of good teams in the PL.
You were on here mate a couple of years ago giving it Billy big balls about your no mark of a club. Ye now should probably consider re applying to the Welsh league to take on the likes of Barry town .

United get a penalty every game that gives them a bit of an advantage.
We have a miles better team , and squad , than Leicester , Wolves , WHU.
The problem is that the constant new financial support , and the current under achievement , is down to one fella , Silva. Time up !

Welcome back Brian :hayee:

Perspective from a team that wants to compete with you - you are short of a striker, you have chucked money at Arsenal for “technical” players (Walcott/Iwobi) and your best centre half was on the bench for Sheffield United. All the best Everton sides I remember had some steel throughout. On paper your first team is at least as good as Wolves and your squad is deeper, but You are structuring and recruiting to play “entertaining “ football without sorting the defensive side or a goal scorer hence the inconsistency in performances. Changing manager won’t address these fundamentals. You’ll be fine, and will finish above Wolves, but Leicester look like the top 6 challengers at the moment.

I don't particularly like Silva, he is far too sulky and his managerial record shows he has patchy results and in the premiership are crap away from home, but we can't sack him unless we have a top class alternative waiting in the wings. We would be viewed in the same way as Watford, a basket case of a club. Hopefully today just shows how important a fit and happy Gomes is to us (at home at least). I also agree with @davek that we will look better against the sides that come forward. The question is why anyone would want to when they can sit back and watch us beat ourselves.

The perception of other clubs is utterly irrelevant. I just want to see us win more games either with or without Silva. If a change is needed in the next few weeks then sadly it should be made, and not unduly delayed.

When we hired him Conte and Wenger were available, so was Sarri. Wenger is still available now, so is Mourinho.

Are we seriously saying that if one of these out of work managers who lives for football was approached by us and given complete control, a massive salary, no immediate expectations, and a chance to make history and be revered by challenging at the top end of the best league in the world they wouldn’t jump at it?

Instead we’ll be drawing up a shortlist that probably includes Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder and the Potter bloke from Swansea. You laugh but that is the limit of our ambition. We look at the lower end of the prem and see who is doing ok and we go for them because the top brass at the club cannot get out of the mindset of ‘get someone with prem experience to grow the club and not take us down’ rather than ‘get the best manager out there’.
Stopped reading that and laughed for 47 minutes when I got to “no immediate expectations”.....if we’ve not won the World Cup after two training sessions in charge the fans want the manager out here.

I hear what you are saying but if we gamble again on someone who is not tried and tested at the highest level, they are going to crack. Hell that could happen if we get the tried and tested. We can't have an Allardyce situation again, I know with Brands that shouldn't happen but you know they'll want x/y/z in Jan and we will be lumbered with it.

Our next move has to be expertly planned and carried out meticulously.

We ain't gonna get someone tried and tested at the highest level, like a Mourinho. We are not a top club.

We need the right fit who will overhaul the squad, refind our identity and play to our strengths rather than rigid systems owing to their own stubbornness.

I want a young hungry manager for these reasons. But there's nothing to fear in firing managers. Most of the top clubs who win trophies do it all the time.

Look if he doesn't get at least 7th by the end of the season, then a parting of the ways may be necessary. We probably will do the usual thing, and come into form with the season already over.We will have a clearer idea around christmas, with regards to Silvas suitability for the job.

I would say our problems are partly down to the fact we have had multiple managers. We certainly need to get to the point where we only bring in 1 or 2 quality players per season instead of the load that have been coming in and been going out recently. Obviously this has been required to get rid of the deadwood but it is no wonder our team plays like a group of strangers.

Who knows maybe you are right, we will soon see, I think we will have to plum more depths first. The ominous sign is that Goodison is not onside with him at the moment and unless he arrests that slide quickly, like Koeman he is done for.
