Singapore Airlines Turbulence Problem

'Clear air' turbulence - the plane drops - you effectively stay where you are - and hit the ceiling with a wallop

Keep your seatbelt on?

CAT is a problem because you can't see what causes it; as there's no obvious geographic or weather event that causes it if there are no pilot reports of turbulence and no clouds formed to suggest turbulence it takes everyone by surprise. It's probably the air risk closest to rogue waves (if that's what they're called) at sea.

kinda hard to read this (or at least I misread it first), blue line is ALT so +400 ft rise from the turbulence with +/- 1500 fpm max rate of climb/descent over what looks like about 1 minute period. must have been terrifying for those on board.

While it wasn't this severe, I flew into Vienna once through some major turbulence, and it was pretty nauseating and very, very unsettling.

On our final descent, I remember at one point looking out the window (obviously sideways looking) and saw the runway running almost perpendicular to the plane.

"Shouldn't that be in front of us?" went through my mind, I'm not ashamed to say I did a few Hail Marys at that point.
