Lagavulin 8yo tonight.

Very different from the 16yo, which is far too expensive these days.

You can still tell it's Lagavulin but the smoke is off the scale mental and it's not got the richness of the 16yo. It's quite bland tbh. Just smoky af and not a lot else going on.

Not nearly as good as Ardbeg 10 or Springbank 12.

Now run by Laphroaig's former DM of 28 years, John Campbell...first release. Don't know if I dare open. 700ml, so a true import.

Springbank stock at my local and to show you approx what we're getting & paying over here...this place is trouble. Almost went for the Campbeltown Loch, out of curiosity.

Crazy how much prices have gone up over here. I recall the days you could get Macallan 18 for under $100.

Haven't been in the Scotch game too long but I've seen the jump just over the last 3/4 years alone.

I got into scotch quite a bit when I was in my mid-20s as I had an older and very hip girlfriend at the time and I was trying to impress her and her friends. Then it sort of stuck. In the last 4 or 5 years or so, I have pretty much stopped drinking liquor, especially scotch and whiskey (though I'll still do a gin and tonic or bloody mary on occasion), so these bottles have been sitting idle for a long while. I also have some Yamazaki (very good and underrated), Bunnahabhain, and Laphroaig 18.

My favorites remain Talisker and Highland Park, but I also like a good sherry-cask highland variety.

You might want to, if you're inclined, check & decant those...bit too much empty space in them to stay vibrant for very long. It's something I need to do myself with a few of my own and I've already had a Green Spot go flat on me from being too low in the bottle for too long. Looking at them, I don't hold out much hope, especially the HP 12 and Lasanta TBH...going on what you've said about your current drinking habits. The others might be salvageable. Whisky will keep for decades as long as you keep sun & oxygen exposure down. Most of my stuff is at half bottle or more, despite all my posts in here which make it look like I have an issue (and I do, with buying, not so much drinking). And don't stop drinking quality spirits...especially in moderation (and ideally Scotch,; it's untouchable in its variety). It's likely, if I do open that Lochlea, it won't be until the end of June when my uncle is going to meet us up in Idaho. The Yamazaki everyone loved back in the day was Scotch, not Japanese whisky...when this was found out, shiz hit the fan and now Japan has regs on its whisky, so that version of it will never be found again unless at auction. @LinekersLegs

Tidy, for a NAS...if you're hung up on having an age statement, don't be afraid.

Gents...get on this stuff, seriously. It's unpeated, I'll just put that out there. And it's a great price here so should be a no-brainer for all of you...I'd buy you one @ste d' indica as our palates seem similar but just belieeeeeve in me. :D The info they put on their bottles via a QR code is nuts. Here's the link it took me to for this bottle. Re-stocked on Monday, had to...too 'kin moreish.
