So I was up in that London and a work meeting finished early, and I realised I was in the vicinity of The Whiskey Exchange on Great Portland St. Having bought from them often online but never visited, thought I'll have me a look-see.

What a place:

This is the basement looking at the US bottles, with a facing wall of scotch. Some fantastic stuff, some of which doesn't get to the website. Unfortunately this is also reversed as the Sagamore I was after is a web exclusive.

Upstairs is brandy, gin, wine and tons of rum.

Well worth a visit, staff are fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. I was treated to samples of Balcones, New Riff and a Stagg Jr plus an Equiano and Appleton Black Barrel 15 upstairs.

I walked out with a standard Sagamore, an El Dorado 12 on recommendation after talking about the styles of rum I like and a second bottle of the rare Foursquare 2008. Paid a bit over the odds for that but what the hell.

Walked out feeling quite the gent. I'll definitely head back in the autumn for some scotch.
How’s the Sagamore? I’ve passed by that distillery many times (if it’s from Baltimore) but never made it in

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10YO without doubt.
Cheers after checking all recommendations (thanks everyone) I’ve ordered this one as the tasting notes seemed to suggest it emwas the most Smokey which I know is what he liked. I’ll let you know how it goes down. I personally don’t like whisky so all the suggestions are really appreciated 👍

I hope (dare I say, predict) you've made your old man very happy....

Evening all,

I’m part of this whisky club, have a look as it’s amazing and I am through to the final to win a bottle of free whisky. All I need to do is get the most votes. I got sent this lovely bottle of Kings Inch, something I had never heard of and then used it as a reward to myself for finishing the London Marathon.

If you could click the link and vote for the picture with the medal that would be amazing!

New one from the local Rosemullion distillery just outside the village. They already distill world class gin and rum and have recently started selling their single malt. Apparently it won a gold medal at a very recent SIP awards for malts aged under 5 years. It's like a good Highland Malt. Not cheap though.

So what's his verdict, do you know?

Can't afford it anymore.
I've moved to gin, because of this...plus, it's summer.
