Single malts

Which ones mate?
You'll be surprised how many to be honest. May be 'a lot' instead of 'most' would have been a better phrase..

I think people get confused what single and blended mean. Singles are from malted barley only and can be 'blended' to acquire different tastes but are still single malt. Blended are single malts but malts using barley, rye, wheat etc when blended take the blended name.. If that makes sense? I'm sure that's how it goes..

But the Scottish malt whiskey society also sell genuine un blended single malts from single barrels. They also sell blends too.

I think you may be confusing vatted and blended malts.

Or are you saying that a single malt may actually be a blend of different distilleries' output? That would be a blended malt, not a blended single.

A "blended single" i.e. a blend of single malts from the same distillery is a vatted malt. E.g. Balvenie Tun 1401

No I'm pretty sure batted are now called blended.

I'm still sure they 'blend' single barley malts though, not all but some.. We had a lecture on it at the SMWS a few years a go.. Hey oh though, never mind.

Having one of these right now. Loving the Glenfiddich!
What do all my fellow whiskey connoisseurs drink?
Recommendations for a better choice accepted ;)

Here's a few I like.

Islay - Ardbeg. My favourite distillery.
Speyside - Balvenie.
Campbelltown- Springbank.
Highlands & Islands - Oban and Dalwhinnie
Lowland - Auchentoshan
I used to be a fan of Glenfarclas, but have not had one for a while. Oban is excellent.

As above my man ;)
Well, I find Oban to be an excellent all rounder. Robust in taste but not overpowering, and the after taste on the palette is present yet not overpowering. It's a very balanced malt.

Great nose to it, and it's a shame it's a little difficult to obtain at present. Should be slightly more accessible again in a year or so.

Don't leave me hanging mate....describe the sensation when drinking for me ;)

10 yo is really, incredibly smoky. Slightly fruity, peppery. Bit of toffee sweetness. There's even smoked bacon in there somewhere. Finish goes on forever.

Uigeadail, probably my favourite whisky is matured in sherry butts for part of its rest, so it richer and sweeter than the 10yo. Kind of christmassy and honeyed, still with the massive smokiness associated with Ardbeg. There's a fruitiness to the finish the 10yo doesn't have, too and it's bottled at cask strength as well. Lovely.

Corryvreckan is more medicinal and salty than Uigeadail, it has more of the characteristics you'd usually associated with Islay whisky. Spicier finsh, too. Only tried this one once, never had a bottle. Would like more.
