Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'm sorry Kay but Manuel Fernandes has more appearances than Donovan for us. His "service" is two miniscule loan spells.

He's a good player and whether he ever dons our shirt again or not has nothing to do with that. I too hate it when people change their opinion of someone's ability because of emotion or something that's not rational. He's a quality player and did well for us.

But erm, if anything he should be grateful. He didn't come out of the goodness of his heart to help little old Everton out. He had his wages (and loan fees) paid for him by one of the biggest clubs in the home of his sport to give him the chance of trying his hand in the biggest league in the world.

I like Landon, but I'm not going to deify him. He isn't an Everton player and never really has been a proper one. Which is a shame, I wish we'd been able to sign him for good immediately after his first loan.

Who the hell said deify him? Who said he "came here out of the goodness of his heart?" Who said any of that?

He wasn't an Everton player? Come on RFUS. I call BS on that.

I said thank you to Drenthe for helping us out.
I said thank you to LD for helping us out.
I said thank you to Straq for helping us out.

The same thing you are asking people to do in saying "don't deify LD" I'm asking to say don't act like tools when someone says something to the media that you know might be false.

That's it. It doesn't hurt anyone to not throw someone who DID help us tremendously in his two "miniscule stints" under the bus. How about we have balanced perspectives in BOTH directions?

Some solid finger wagging from Kay here. Regardless of anything else he did his best on the pitch when he was with us.

Bless you. I don't see many people trying to turn him into a God on here. Selective memory by some.

We always do that to ex players, though. See Lescott, Rooney, Pienaar etc.

And people defended them - in particular Pienaar.

Wasn't around for the first two though. Do remember Pienaar. He didn't suddenly turn into a pariah when he left.

Don't take my words so literally, Kay. This is a debate not a tax return!

I wasn't having a go at Landon like. Clearly we just differ when it comes to what deserves thanks. I'm not really overly thankful for highly paid professionals doing their job. I mean in spells, sure. When Fellaini bummed United I was thankful. But in general, maybe you're a bit too polite!

And I'm not throwing him under the bus! I remember what Landon accomplished while with us very clearly, and he played well consistently. It's clear in my mind and I'm not going to forget or blur it to fit an agenda. I feel quite balanced to be honest... I think you're perhaps merging my views up with some of the more anti-LD ones.

I'd just rather focus on players who do play for Everton. Week in, week out.
