Because they are useless. The top teams would put a hundred points on them, Georgia, Romania and Russia are the best of the rest in the Europe.

Well, its played at world class level in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Argentina. Less so in places like Georgia, Rumania, the Pacific Islands, and Japan.
No idea why it works in some nations and not others mind.
At a guess, I`d say it`s probably to do with tradition and the fact that as sport it was never exported there.
The Jesuits took it to South America, when they were spreading the word and educating the Heathens, which is why it caught on there.
It`s probably played, but on a real localised basis and not to a great standard.
* It`s slowly catching on in some parts of the USA.
Time to go back to the 5 nations. Italy are actually devaluing the competition rather than adding to it.
They look the part, but are really quite poor in all aspects
They aren't even competing in any games never mind look like winning one. They've regressed over the last 5 years and they were never good to start with.
Before this year's championships there was actually talk from pundits that we should expect a stronger year from Italy - look how that turned out.
There's also been talk about replacing Italy with Georgia, however I feel that would simply be a sidewards step - if not backwards.

They do in fact Spain are causing shocks by recently beating Russia and Romania and now look on course to qualify for the world cup for only the second time.

Absolute poppycock Italy do anything but, they are just in a transition phase at the moment. They have some very exciting youth coming through and will be good competition in a year or two.

I like the balance it brings, can you remember when it used to be a 5 nations weekend but your team wasn't actually playing that week. Used to frustrate hell out of me!
Italy have had moments in the Sun. There was always going to be downs as well as ups. People were saying Scotland should be booted out a while back but like most team sports it is a cycle. I'm sure Italy will get back to competing sooner or later.
