Some of our proudest records could all go this season

Yes as good as City are to watch, as were Chelsea, nobody can deny that every trophy they have won in recent years were bought. Would I moan if Everton had done the same? Maybe not but I couldn’t argue that they were not bought.

You can say they were "bought" but every single player had to fight to get their hands on the silver. And astute managers had to buy the right players. We were once the Mersey Millionaires too.

What we need is competent people across the club at all levels. The problem as I've stated many times is that culture comes from the top, and Bill Kenwright is the chairman.

At least we're in the running for most failed stadium moves, most amount of time watching this space, most relegation battles, and most lies spewed out to friendly parrots in the media. Amazing records, great times.

Well you are right about Chairman Bill what a legacy his records have left him with.

As for the Mersey Millionaires we had the right competent chairman and a very astute manager in Harry Catterick and millionaires have been replaced by Multi Billionaires which have made a huge difference I think.

I don't want to go down so I guess that those records mean something but I don't care about the others. To be honest, I feel like our history has become a millstone around our necks. It's led to complacency as we keep referring back to how we're historically a big club whilst we've ignored the fact that we've been getting smaller by the year. It's been 4 decades since we won a league title. 3 since we won anything. Those aren't the 'records' of a big club.

If losing records makes us focus on the present and plan for the future I'm all for losing them. Except being in the top flight, obviously.
Yup, this is all part of the process of renewal. Our history and tradition has been a crutch, but to walk again we need to kick that away.

We're not in danger of being overshadowed by Manchester City. That happened a decade ago. We're in danger of being overshadowed by Brentford.

We have walked with a crutch for maybe 2 decades, probably more. The financial giants in football left us trailing in their wake. There is no way back in the short term. We have no illusions as a middle ranking club with a distant glorious history.

As good as he is, there's very little chance of Haaland breaking Dean's record.

35 goals in 31 games is a million miles from 60 in 39 games, or even 42 games.
It is nonsense, they have never mentioned Dixie now suddenly, it is all the talk. Plus his 63 goals were from 2 competitions. Haaland has played in 4 competitions. 12 goals were in the Champions League.

Dixie Dean didn't get to play the League Cup and 13 games in the Champions League. If Haaland can score over 50 league goals he'd be approaching Dixie Dean levels
Also the amount of games ending 7:3 and 6:0 at the time is legitimately insane - defending was just not a thing, was it? Even the draws were 2:2, 4:4 and all that.

Like I get it, we want to be the first/best at everything, and Dean was a football specimen obviously, but this is just looking for excuses really.

How come United haven’t won anything despite eye-watering spend in the last few years? How come Chelsea are closer to relegation than Europe this year? How come we are likely going down despite outspending the vast majority of PL clubs over the last 6-7 years?

Spending money to win trophies IS the game, now. There are just some clubs far better at it than others.
People conveniently ignore that the entire history of the professional game is full of teams who spent heavily, in comparison to their peers, to get success. It's nothing new.

Even in the early 1900s the game was about haves and havenots. Arsenals "Bank Of England" in the 1920's, the Everton "Mersey Millionaires", the RS were often accused of 'buying' the title by splashing out on Barnes & Beardsley, Blackburn bought a title....
