Spain v England

So was he or was he not at fault for the goal?

Cant you read? For the build up yes - a shocking pass - even for a defender. But as soon as Villa got the ball i wouldnt have blamed him, It was pure class by Villa.

So in defending terms, no he wasnt. In distribution terms, he was. So partly.

He was at fault for a [Poor language removed] pass - therefore for the goal - but the goal itself - he couldnt really defend.

So;

Can you fault his defending? No
Can you fault his distribution? Check

He needs to improve that aspect of his game to be able to compete - it really is that simple.

That analysis is on the basis of watching him for years, not just tonight.

I said tonight further affirmed.

Search my username with the term "distribution" - you'll see I have emphasised it many a times.

Jamie Carragher was in and around the England team for years, he's a hoofer and doesn't have good distribution. I have no doubts Jags will be.

John Terry isn't elegant on the ball himself, he's just had time and games to get settled into the side. He's been given a chance so to speak.

Bar his mistake he didn't give the ball away today, his distribution was fine both long and short. It was a lapse in concentration, a lazy pass. Nothing more nothing less. It could happen to anyone.

It's not like he was constantly hoofing, hacking at the ball and looking nervous, he wasn't. Lets be honest.

So you dont blame him for getting screwed into the ground, glad we got that sorted dom! My comment stands then (Shock - dom doesnt blame jag!)

Good goal by Spain. Upson just missed the header. Jagielka wouldve gotten it :P (awaits rant from HB - even though it was a joke)

Villa also got past Terry aswell. It was great skill, cant you see that?

If it was Yobo in that position the result wouldve been exactly the same - goal - but im sure you wouldnt have said anything.

Yes it was a poor pass, but every single player tonight has passed poorly tonight. The ball was just near the half way line, Barry and Downing were further back by that time (which is why none of them got the ball) no one cut out the pass, Villa mugged off both defenders and scored.

England have been poor tonight. In every single department. Shocked at the lack of cohesiveness, fluidity, and technique. You watch Spain and its one touch to control, one to pass. We have Crouch who has legs and knees flailing all over the place, 5 touches later he gets a pass across or he gets fouled.

Surely there is better than this out there?

Can't we get this ****** banned? Its obvious he's a RS on the wind up.

As Capello said, England can't play like Spain.

I don't think there's is better out there, the English don't play football like that sadly.

I think he could take on International football at the moment - Distribution isnt everything, if he jut defended, and hoofed most balls im sure most wouldnt have too much of a problem with him. Terry isnt the best passer either, along with Carragher.

However his passing does require alot of work, i dont know how a Premier League footballer can make a pass like that. I couldnt care less about the hoofing...it is basic passing. If he knows he cant pass well - then dont pass.

And? Is that it? Game over? We can't play football like Man U, so there is no point. Come on mate, we were not outplayed today because of sheer skill, it was because of poor selections, and poor performances.
