was there any contact on that red card at all? the ref had been letting it go all game and a red card for ???? I havent seen a good replay

Spain should enjoy their QF against Paraguay because both Argentina and Germany will sort them out no problem.

I doubt it.

Spain will take Argentina.
Not for me. Spain's game broke down there tonight. The only way they swung it was by bringing big Llorentes on and mixing it up. That wont trouble Argentina. Portugal, yes. Not Argentina....or Germany for that matter.

I think and hope it'll be Brazil/Argentina, with Messi finally coming good to seal his status as one of the greats.

I can't see it to be honest, Argentina aren't going to put ten men behind the ball and frustrate Spain, they'll have to come out and play, and I can't see them out passing Spain. Messi might swing it for them, but they've got to find a way to get the best out of him and keep the shape of the side. Mascherano's going to need some help.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I really dont think their passing game has got going this tournament. Of course, they knocked it around at 1-0 tonight once they'd broken Portugal down with the goal, but it was all ole stuff in the middle of the park with **** all end product.

I think people are making way too much of Argentina's defensive 'weaknesses'. I think they have enough quality there to cope, and upfront there's no match for the firepower they have in Higuan, Tevez, Aguero, Messi.

They've struggled because team's have sat back, pushed ten men behind the ball and cut off all the space in behind, it's very hard to break down, no matter what level you play at. Inter proved that against Barca. But Spain still control the ball, they dictate the play more often than not.

And if Argentina come out and play like they have so far then I can see Spain opening them up. If Maradona persists with Mascherano holding, Messi as an advanced central midfielder and two wingers they are going to find it really tough. They have great flair and attack in waves but I haven't seen a level of control in there play.

They'd be better off playing like Inter or Portugal, but I'm not sure they have the players capable of doing it. It's not so much there defence but there midfield. If Veron is brought in as a deeper lying playmaker they might have a solution.

They have options in midfiled if Spain look like they're dictating and on the front foot. In that instance I can see a situation where Veron and Bollati get half a game each alongsdie Mascherano. Bolatti and Mascherano would be a little uncreative like...but then again, all they have to do is get it to Messi!!!

Spain annoy the **** out of me.

I actually think teams like Utd, Chelsea and even us are more entertaining. It's sooo boring watching them just pass the ball around.

If they do something, fair enough, but they dont.

Sooo, at this stage, i'm tipping Brazil or Argentina.

This WC Spain have looked like the Spain of old, before the European Championship. They always looked good but were never incisive enough to get past QFs in the big competitions. Possibly because their stock has risen and teams are wary of them now or possibly because they miss Marcos Senna. Ironically, his substitute, Busquets, along with Villa, has possibly been their best player this tournament on an individual level. But I think the team functions better with Senna. They moved the ball round quicker. This time round they don't face any of the big guns so, while Paraguay are no pushovers I think Spain have got a bit too much for them. However, for all their pretty passing, they only beat Germany 1-0 in the Euro final and this Germany side is far better than that one. Same goes for Argentina, Holland or Brazil. Better than anything they faced in Euro 06
Nice to see Llorente come on and make an impact. Love to see that lad in a blue shirt.
I've always said that Villa is better than Torres and I think this Tournament has proven that. What a player.
