We all balls up occasionally with our spelling, especially when we're trying to type quickly enough to get the thoughts from our heads onto the page before we lose track, but is it just me, or is there a common deficiency in the use of the English language amidst forum dwellers regardless of site?
Some common examples:
There / their / they're.
Our v are.
Too / to / two.
Where / we're / wear / were.
Let's have a GOT grammar awareness day.
that's the one that bugs me the most, and it's more a regional mistake, we say it as "are" but it seems a lot actually think that it is that instead of "our". there was even a banner that had the mistake on, now if that doesn't make our support look like a bunch of melts i dont know what does.
if you keep on seeing words spelled wrong then you do start to spell it wrong as well, i've found that i doubt myself having typed a word in correctly, just as i also start to type things in the way that i keep seeing them on here.
Have to agree being a spelling nazi's just isnt cool man..but by jebus talk text crap and feel my wrathYour and you're seems to be the most common one, along with there and they're. It's rampant all over the internet though, not just GoT.
I can handle it...what gets me is "what r u doing?" and other text-speak cr*p like that. That nonsense does my head in...
Maybe i should stay well clear of this thred....
some of it isn't about spelling, it's about getting it wrong.
examples -
'are team are the best' - it's OUR team
'them players are rubbish' - it's THOSE players
'we could of beat them' - we could have beaten them
'we was the best' - we were the best
there are plenty of other examples of bad grammar but these are by far the most frequently used.
yes, I'm a pedantic old bag who is bordering on being a grammar fascist but it's not difficult to use the correct words.
I blame Thatcher meself like
agreed. for example, you probably would be, but im not arsed about me typing like this because i havent actually done anything positively wrong. ive just missed out punctuation. likewise txt speak. as long as you dont just use the wrong words or put apostrophes in the wrong places etc, doesnt bother me.
