Until we know exactly what his role is in the transfer dealings and what players he is responsible for signing then I cant aim abuse at him.

That was my outlook until very recently mate. But the facts are damning, 300 mil spent and we’ve gone backwards. Every player Leicester signed in his last window at Leicester has been moved on. Allardyce was his choice. I get that we don’t know what his role is exactly but the fact we don’t is cause for concern alone and we we assume he does what most DoFs then he has to go.

Im not absolving him of blame but the whole DOF thing is shrouded in secrecy at Everton.

Does he personally get involved transfer fee's or does he give his reccomendation to the board? What if he does his bit and then the board fail to do theirs?

We have seen that he didnt have the final say on transfers by what Allardyce has said, so whats the point in a DOF, isnt he then just basically chief scout? What if he found 3 LB's but Allardyce wanted none of them - what happens then?

I thought a DOF identified and signed players for positions required (see Monchi, Emanolo, Comolli), but there seems to be some tug of war here. I think Walsh was responsible for the Lookman, Vlasic, Sandro, Onyekuru and Pickford signings - plus we know Gueye was pretty much his too. The Gylfi, Klaassen, Martina, Bolasie, Schneiderlin and Steklenburg were definitely Koemans. Unsure on Keane and Williams but Rooney was probably everyones.

Mangala reeks of Allardyce

My point is, unless his role is clear and defined then I dont know just how responsible he is for our current state.

Again agree with you to an extent. That said the only players I can say with certainty were Walsh were Gueye, Lookman, Sandro and Onyekuru. Pickford was a widely rated young GK so probably both Koeman and Walsh and Vlasic was literally a punt after we played Split. The point is that his role is redundant, if he’s Cheif Scout so be it but there needs to be clarity on it (from him or the club). That said there are things we can’t overlook: We know he is involved in negotiations in some capacity given very recently with Tosun. Also widely reported that Allardyce was his recommendation and again his Leicester signings being shown the door.

I agree with you, but that means the best that can be said about him is that he doesn't have any real say in anything. For example, it seems likely to me that Koeman bullied him: whining to the press until he got Siggurdson and Schniederlin, nixing deals like that Daffodil guy and who knows who else while promulgating the "if it's a good player we can find a place for him" attitude that got us five different mediocre number 10s. But then I think, "why do we have a DOF can get bullied like that?"
