I was for a Director of Football when Martinez was here but that was because I thought he needed managing. If we have an experienced manager then we don't need a DoF, the managers assistants can go and check on players and recommend them, they work closely on the footballing side and know what sort of players are needed and what value to put on that need. Also they are working for the manager and not on some sort of other hierarchy.
Surely on the commercial side we have people with purely commercial type skills who really don't need to know if a player fits into the manager's plans.
Bin Walsh now, don't let Fat Sam near another transfer, sack him, the red faced Kopite and the back stabbing Shakespeare five minutes after the last match of the season and announce the new manager five minutes after that.

City, Chelsea and Leicester all have one, that's the last 5 league title winners, yeah would hate it though if we had all troubles Chelsea have because of it, if I could see the trouble through all the trophies they've won using this model.
We have Leicester's magical DoF and he has spunked £239m up the wall.

Conte, their league winning manager, is currently st war over their transfer dealings.

Pep is one of the world's greatest managers. He wouldn't have some DoF telling him what he can and can't do with signings.

Fact is, DoF has very little success in England. I'm firmly of the belief that a manager should be tasked with finding players to fit their system.

It can hardly be a fact if the last 5 title winners have had one.

It's made due to some of the players he's brought in to that PSV team mate who've gone on to much better leagues for s huge profit.

He has worked successfully for a fair whilst now in the role as well so not s case of a risk if he can do the job with zero experience, Chelsea wanted him which is say was a good sign as they recruit very well

That’ll do for me pal. Sounds promising.

The players that moved on for big money, were they a success?

I also hope that he isn’t wanted for a buy to sell for profit policy. I want league titles, fa cups and champions league.

The problems I honestly don't trust the people at the club who make the decisions and reading that Guardian article about Swansea & Sigurdsson it seems too many people with different opinions are making decisions right now.

Moshiri needs to take control himself and bin off Kenwright and co.

It's sort of like every other transfer situation this. We went after Monchi for quite a bit and then when it wasn't possible someone just panicked and made a rushed decision to appoint this clown.

There doesn't seem like there was a proper strategy or plan with any logical conditioning for anything this club does.

Make a list of the top 10 footballing / sporting directors in the world and just work the way through them until we get one.

Don't just try one and then give the job to a bloody PE teacher.

Chelsea's especially; how fantastic would the side that Emenalo built be - Courtois, Hazard, KDB, Salah, Mata, Rom, Kante, Alonso etc - if Mou hadn't of smashed it up.

Its not hard to pay lots for talent that's already standing out.

But it is really down to how good the DOF is. Walsh's record isn't the best but he has bought us some good looking youth players. Senior players have been a mess though

It can - on the whole.

Everton, Tottenham and Liverpool have all failed with one.

Leicester’s buys, which Steve Walsh sanctioned, after their title win have all left the club. I wouldn’t put that fluke as a success for the DoF camp.

Man City and Chelsea can buy whoever Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t want, such is their spending power and presence in the CL.

We need a committed manager who has a system he wants to play and gets the players he wants to suit that system.

And what did Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham achieve without their directors of football recently?
