Hated the DoF years at SAFC was a total disaster especially the "Udinese Model" under Keith Lemon (de Fanti) signings like Altidore lol. Once we got rid of it under Big Sam our signings and team got better. Don't like the thought of some clueless [Poor language removed] picking players for managers just look at them up the road from us with Carr as an other example

Hopefully for yous things will work out different ;)

....I don't think there's a right or wrong system, it's the people you have managing it that matter.

Supposedly, the manager tells the DOF a position and the requirements e.g pacy ball playing centre back over 6ft...the DOF then provides a list of the top 5 recommended and Koeman would choose.

I can do that using FM and Genie Scout :-). I expect he will be the link man between RK and the board and basically manage all non-playing football related matters at the club, leaving RK to focus on coaching, tactics etc... As much as freeing up RK to focus on those things more than our managers have in the past, it should add benefits the other way as well, with other Board members and senior officers having their duties more focused.

The only concern is we have lost Steve brown to man u, wasn't he one of the best scout in the game He found us our latest gem in John stones. It's seems that Brown was as good as walsh.

You're comparing apples and pears, they're not the sames jobs, Walsh is not coming to us as a scout. He would probably have wanted to appoint his own Chief Scout and fine tune our scouting network and arrangements anyway.

...I do agree with general perception of the DoF, working in partnership with the Coach to bring in the 'type' of players he wants. I also think a key requirement is to identify and recommend players that might not only enhance the squad but improve what we already have. I think he will also have close links with Academy Director and coaches.

True mate we went from de Fanti to Congerton who did little to impress in his role at Hamburg. Plus having a tight owner and clowns managing us didn't help the set up

I think Tony Henry was the scout that found players like Stones, Pienaar, Arteta, Cahill etc and he left for West Ham a few years ago

Wow, could explain why west ham are buying decent players these days.

Anyway back to walsh, cant see us buying these big names if we are bringing Walsh in tbf.

Why do we need to waste money on this pillock? Just let Koeman buy the players he wants and be done with it. Now we're going to have to wait weeks for Steve to compile some lists for Koeman to choose from. What a load of nonsense.
Is Right mate, cos letting the manager buy players has really served us well over the past 20 years hasn't it.

To be fair to scouts it's very rare anyone is linked in the media none of us here have heard of or suggested before so it's not quite as crucial - in my opinion - that we keep hold of Brown or whoever.

Well he's a top scout and also an assistant manager at Leicester so he's a fairly good candidate for the DoF role. Also it's a chance to get hold of his scout network which will benefit us no matter who we're guying. All big teams have successful scout networks, it's not like they say "well we only buy well known players so there's no need for top scouts".
