I don't claim to be an expert on the inner workings of a football club, but I'm pretty sure his job is to identify the targets, NOT to dictate the timeframe in which the club try to sign them. I agree that our deadline day appears to have been a shambles but to claim that Steve Walsh's head should roll for it is one of the most ill informed, small minded, knee-jerk reactions I've ever seen in regards to EFC. He hasn't been brought in to change us into title winners over night, he's been brought in to improve recruitment over a period of years.
Finally, the fact that at least 3 of his targets (Slimani, Sissoko, Perez) have been purchased during the last few days by Champions League clubs tells you what a mammoth task we've got on our hands in getting these deals over the line. It's all well and good establishing targets, but until our reputation improves (ie we're not thought of as mid table also-rans), a lot of clubs are able to present a more attractive option. The person responsible for turning us into a bottom-half club has already been sacked, give the new regime a chance.
