Would that be the same Barkley who played an entire season without an assist to his name last year?
That's nads Dave
He has a free role. If a player cant find space in those circumstances they need shooting. He doesn't have the same shift as Barkley, who is tasked with a far greater workload carrying the ball, being asked to be the creator of chances and scoring too. Naismith has it very nice in there as it happens.
I think thats a bit unfair on him mate. You still have to be intelligent enough to know where to take the space up and still be able to bury any chance that comes your way. Barkley u are correct will drag players out of position due to his dribbling skills. I don't compare them though, Barkley is a one off gem, Naismith is taking his chance in the team and doing great.
There's no question about that. My concern is any ramifications it has on the games of those around him. For my money, someone like Barkley brings more people alive and his qualities far outweigh any consideration of whether he gets his place immediately back.
On current form you can't drop Naismith, simple as.Thats a valid point mate regarding what Barkley brings to the team. I think the bonus out of it is Naiamjth has slotted in and at least softened the blow of losing Barkley for a period in that area of the pitch. I think Barkley will be straight in once fit but he will accomodate Nais by putting him up top with Rom out right on occasions. All about options. Still need a winger mind, definitely light in that area as proved yesterday with injuries and Atsu not being available.

If Barkley was fit again tomorrow he'd not get straight back into the side imo.
I'm actually done with this forum. You just described Van Basten right there.
Nothing wrong with making a living of being at the right spot at the right time AND taking your chances.
That stat alone blows your argument to bits, @davek.
You can't criticise Naismith's lack of assists when your preferred option scored a big fat zero on the assist count last season.
Just let it drop. Barkley will be back soon enough, but in the meantime Naismith is doing superbly well.
Assists only tell a fragment of the story. It's about creating momentum from defensive to attack. Transition. Naismith has a much more pedestrian game and cant influence tempo change as Barkley can. You're comparing a thoroughbred classic horse with a handicap class one.
If you dont see that them there's really no way forward here.
