Also makes me wonder why we didn't do the deal earlier so the lad had time to prepare his fitness and as such play more games.

Most probably he wasn't our first choice option, however for once I'd like Everton to be slightly more prepared when it comes to transfers.

I think Everton had an offer for Islam Slimani turned down and then went to Niasse

I think Oviedo deserved to keep his spot. I just don't like your Baines-bashing. Could have said "Oviedo deserved another game", or "Oviedo doesn't deserve to be dropped". But as you've done before, you've bashed someone who's barely played football in a year rather bafflingly, for no good reason.
Just your perception mate. Oviedo is our LB until he loses form. Simple as that.

Barry and McCarthy can drop back should injury force it.
And who fills in for them in midfield that scenario? There's a lack of defensive midfield cover on the bench. If Gibson was fit for the Newcastle match, why has he been left out of the squad today in order to accommodate three wingers on the bench?

I really don't understand Martinez's use (or lack of use) of the subs.

Perhaps but we've had this discussion before.

Competition is good either way. But healthy competition. This isn't Joel vs Howard, it's the league's best LB of the past 5 years vs a fan favourite LB who's basically our Kevin Grosskreutz. Win win for us.
