Just been on Sky News and noticed a story about the Queens honours list. One has been given to Aslie Pitter, who founded the world's most successful gay-only (as far as I can tell) football team, Stonewall FC.
Whilst I think it's great that the effort is being made at the grassroots level to rid the plague of homophobia on football pitches up and down the country, I have to admit I was slightly shocked and surprised at the fact a gay-only football club actually existed!
In the UK as we stand, there's very, very few groups that are allowed to be exclusionist based on the grounds of sexuality, race, religion etc. I guess what I'm saying is that I can't imagine a "straight only" active policy at a football club going on without massive hatred from the media.
Wouldn't it be a better idea to encourage the inclusion of gays at every club rather than encourage the introduction of gay-only clubs?!
