good for the game or another nail in the coffin?

Looks like another opportunity for the powers that be to manipulate the results for elite clubs. Just like VAR.

City losing 1-0 to Everton...12 mins injury time.
Everton losing 1-0 to City...4 mins injury time.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
You've also got to factor in that when City are 1-0 up against us, they won't time waste. If we're 1-0 up, we will.

Now this isn't a negative against us. It's part of football. It's largely praised when it's a cup game. Yet it will only benefit the sky teams. It's very rare any of them will time waste against a "lesser" team. But the "lesser" team will of course try and grind out an important win against them. Now they have no chance. It's yet another rule introduced to help the sky teams. Just like the 5 subs rule.

The average length of time a ball was in play last season was only 55 minutes in the premier league! Out of the other 35, which bits are added on? Obviously not the whole 35 minutes. I guess it all comes down to the discretion of the referee. Maybe they should adopt a basketball style clock, but instead of instantly stopping it when the ball is out of play, maybe allow 10 seconds, then stop the clock. Free kick, throw in, corner, penalty, injury, whatever, 10 seconds then stop the clock. That would make time wasting pointless and things would be undeniably fair, so it won’t be happening!

Who wants fair?

Time-wasting has been happening for the last 120+ years, its 1 of the many black arts that makes this game we love.

Stinks of if it aint broke to me.

All for it.
If we get 120min games then so be it. Its a 90 minute game that is played for about 55 minutes. Will hopefully get rid if time-wasting.
10 subs alone will take a good chunk of the time up.

It’s always been that way… extending the game by 20mins is not the answer.

They should just have times for free kicks and gk to be taken.

20secs for a gk etc or corner…. 10 secs for throw in … 20 secs for free kick.

And all they would do is stop to clock after the time has gone over …. If a corner hits the 20 sec mark then the clock stops till the balls kicked.

I don’t actually think they need to add any time on.
Just ref the game correctly and book people early on for time wasting …. They soon cut it out

Take it out the refs hands. Have the time on the scoreboard and crack on. Then everyone can see exactly what is left.

I have no idea why a time keeper cannot be in charge of the score board …. It’s clear, they’re for everyone to see….

Oh wait, that means they can’t manipulate games … not I get why they can’t do it

I wonder if it will lead to the water breaks becoming mandatory for every match, so there's officially four quarters in every game.

They'll argue 55 to 60 mins is too much without a break.

A quick 2 min blast of adverts would be worth a lot of money

This is basically the same as the over rate debate in cricket.

Complete non-issue imho that is full of noncery opinions and pointless stats

FA should be focusing on ironing out real issues in the game

I think I agree, but more consistency would be good. It does annoy me when a free kick takes a minute out of a game, but I don’t think games should start to last 110 minutes either. We’re struggling as it is!
