"Good Lord! My Stormin' Norman commemorative plates stolen...again."

More precision munitions were dropped on the first night of Gulf War 1 than in the entire 2nd World War, fact fans. The ensuing aerial bombardment that we pounded onto them literally disabled their warfighting capability, including the vital C&C links/centres. Their huge ground force was isolated, despondent and fractious.

As for SF, someone above has already rightly pointed out that he had to be persuaded - and it wasn't easy - to use SF on the ground, deep up-country. He wasn't a fan of small, tightly-knit teams of operatives and was a typical American gung-ho type of General who felt that the vast arsenal at his disposal would win out.

Clearly, that wasn't necessarily going to do the trick in terms of eliminating the mobile Scud launchers, so they needed to be cuter and get right up close and personal. Ground teams was the best option, although hindsight is always helpful.

That said, I absolutely respect the fella for the way that he never hid his initial concerns and confessed openly to how amazed he was by the results of the teams who proved his scepticism wrong. He went to great lengths to personally thank them all, and was keen to heap praise on their efforts rather than his own. It's that kind of leadership that, for me, is priceless and he should be remembered for that.

Hannibal, Patton, Alexander, Napoleon, Attila The Hun, Robert E Lee, Freddy the Great, Stormin Norman, and not in that order.

He's up there.

lost, won but as a minor actor only, won but went mad, lost, lost, lost, would have lost but for a fluke, won.

They were a gang of rag tag soldiers who didn`t want to be fighting it was like real madrid beating Altrincham or someone.
