Suarez's Punishment

An astonishingly lenient punishment, but sadly this comes as no surprise in a sport that steadfastly refuses to address any of the violence, cheating or disciplinary issues in the game. I'm going to learn from that norwegian punter and put a bet on Suarez biting another player in future, because once again he is being let off the hook.

I dont see it as lenient tbh.

4 months global ban from any football. Training, matches, friendlies, even being in a stadium/training ground.
Plus 9 match international ban.
FIRST time FIFA has banned globally, other than drugs & fixing.
Longest FIFA ban ever.
Poxy fine.

Would have preferred longer ban, (obviously), but all things considered, bearing in mind most on here were expecting an international ban at most, reasonably pleased with it.

Would be funny if he does it again though! Jeez.

Should have at least 3 times the last punishment for re offending. It'll only be something like 10 club games. Poor.

I try to stay away from the odds-on shots

Just because it's less lenient than the previous inadequate punishments does not mean it is sufficient. It is FIFA's own fault they have set themselves such weak precedents. They should have banned him for eighteen months, with half the ban suspended. That would have given them room to reduce it a bit on appeal if necessary, yet still make it a proper deterrent ban.

Let me put it this way: If your kid played football for his school, and was bitten by a kid from another team who had previously bitten players in two other games, would you be satisfied if half his playing ban for his third offence covered time when no matches take place anyway?

You're right in saying it's not as lenient as the previous bans. You're wrong in saying it isn't lenient.

If you add up all the matches he will miss, pre season, league, CL, possibly cups, plus internationals, it isnt far short of that actually.
