Suarez's Punishment

OK, but if part of my play was to kick dudes in the nuts, and I was already suspended twice for a total of 16 matches for kicking dudes in the nuts, I would probably stop kicking dudes in the nuts. Any reasonable, logical person would come to that conclusion, regardless if they're dirty or not.
Or, if you thought that 16 games was a reasonable price that you were willing to pay, you'd keep doing it. As is the case with Suarez.

He doesnt do it on purpose, its involuntary, the whole holding his teeth afterwards, kinda like "What the flick did I just do".

He couldnt stop even if he wanted to.

The only part I thought was excessive was the ban on training and football-related activities. Surely, it has to be the club's right to let him train, he's on Liverpool's payroll. It's probably because I never expected the ban to extend to club level football, but I think the penalty is severe enough and makes a good statement.

It does admittedly but something strong needs to be done. The previous incidents carried suspension and clearly have not deterred him. Think of the previous attempt on the Italian CB, something had to be done and Liverpool FC need to wake up.

I agree. Some murderers can't help it either, that's why they go to secure mental institutions instead.

I think the only reasonable outcome for someone with impulsive aggressive tendencies is to have him spend an indeterminate amount of time in Ashworth really.

Don't buy that Goat, it is all part of his cover up, look at the other fouls in that video and notice how he feigns injury to portray himself as the victim, especially those two fouls in the Derby game.

No one could possibly think that missing 16 games is worth gaining a one second advantage. It isn't rational.

At our expense no thank you.

I honestly think he should be muzzled.

I doubt there's any punishment in the world outside of putting him down that will reform him, Luis Saurez Rex is an unapologetic loon with an entire country ready to adopt his twisted world view.

But he HASN'T been punished severely. That's the reason why he CHOOSES to keep doing it - the punishment is too weak and people like you defend him by suggesting it's not his fault.

How the #$^#% am I defending him? He was twice suspended for the same action and missed 16 matches, and did the same thing again; ergo, suspending him from matches does not prevent the behavior.

That's exactly the point though - what he's doing isn't rational. You can argue he gains an advantage from unsettling the opposition etc. but ultimately the ends don't justify the means in the eyes of a normal human being. Even if he is premeditating what he's doing, it's still not a rational thought process that leads him to it.

Therefore, it doesn't matter how long he's banned for, the same thing will happen again and again. The only hope is to keep increasing the ban in the hope he can get it - FIFA can't mandate he gets professional help, but his friends and family should be doing what's best for him and advising that he does.

He's done it three times - in my opinion, the third should have constituted a very long term ban so that it's clear he's in last chance saloon (I'm talking 1 year plus). However, the ban is lenient, but if he does it a fourth time, it should be for life, as he's not a rational human being and he's then, beyond all doubt, a danger to his professional colleagues. With that threat in place, it's in the best interests of himself as an adult and his family and friends to make sure he doesn't throw away his talent.

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke has called on Luis Suarez to seek treatment after being found guilty of biting an opponent for a third time.

Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 win over Italy on Tuesday and has been banned from all football-related activity for four months by world football's governing body.

"He should go for treatment," Valcke said. "It's definitely wrong.

"The first time, it's an incident. More than once, it is not."

International players' union FIFPro called for Suarez to "receive all the support he needs".

"The focus should be on the rehabilitation and serious treatment of the player. FIFPro believes that treatment must be a part of any sanction," a statement read.

FIFPro said Suarez's prolonged absence from the game "must be addressed as it directly infringes his right to work".

Suarez was banned for 10 matches for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013 and seven matches for doing similar to PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax in 2010.

"That is why the sanction has to be exemplary," Valke added.

Suarez has received support from World Cup winner Diego Maradona, while Chiellini branded the ban "excessive".

The Uruguayan is not allowed to train with his club or enter a football stadium yet Spanish side Barcelona remain interested in signing the player from Liverpool.

Why are the BBC trying to sell him by the way?

Barcelona remain keen to sign Uruguay's Luis Suarez despite his four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match.

The Liverpool striker, 27, cannot take part in any football-related activity until the end of October.

He is not allowed to train with his club or enter a football stadium.

Yet La Liga side Barca, who already have Argentina forward Lionel Messi and Brazil playmaker Neymar, would consider signing Suarez for the right price.

Liverpool bought Suarez from Ajax for £25m in January 2011.
