Summer 2018 Transfer Window

Could it be bids and interest in players have been lodged and players or clubs are waiting on other offers and things will start to gather pace towards the end of the window.

Not many of the players we are rumoured to be after have moved yet Tierney, Mina, Digne etc etc

I'll have whatever you've had to provide me with your level of optimism.

Also.... several deals down the years involving at least one prem club and player plus cash swaps

Gallas for Ashley Cole
Zamora for Defoe
Owen for Nunez
Reyes for Baptista
David Luiz for Matic

I think the point is that given the amount of swap deals that are mooted every transfer window - a tiny tiny tiny fraction of them actually happen.

The 5 deals that you mention happened over a period of a decade and a half yet I can't remember a single window where Everton weren't linked with a player plus cash deal.
This window alone we've seen talk of:
Bolasie swap in a deal for Zaha
Besic swap in a deal for Gibson
Davy Klassen in a deal for Vida
Davy Klassen in a deal for Andros Townsend (gotta be the weirdest one I saw)

Even deals that do involve players going both directions - like Lukaku/Rooney last year - they usually decouple the deals from each other even though it's likely taken into account in the negotiations.

It's the football manager games that have popularised the idea of player swap deals in transfer rumours. The number of reported swap deals in the pipeline versus what actually happens makes it completely reasonable to discard all transfer rumours that talk about swaps because in 99% of cases you will be correct (and that's a conservative figure, I'd say less than 1 in 100 swap rumours are true)

You haven’t read a single interview with Brands/Silva yet have you?

Yes I have, but I only believe it when I see it, at the mo I only see cutting costs and no squad additions.
Interviews hopefully will be proved correct but we will get the ‘player needs time to gel into the squad’ if we don’t force the market soon

What intrigues me is Silva's comments after both the Irdning & Bury games. Both times when asked about transfers he said he was 'confident' that we'd land the targets he wants. Suggests possibly that there's been stuff going on behind-the-scenes that's further along than many suspect and things will finally start happening after the Portugal trip when he's happy with what he's seen.

We are going to need few windows to clean the mess of the previous regime
It depends how much we want them out of the club. Quite a few will probably need to go on loan, perhaps with us subsiding part of the wages. It can be dne if we really want it too. It is a bit of a mess though. I think the important thing is that we free up salaries and bring in some fees, even if it's only loan fees, to help cover the cost of the salaries of the new players we want to bring in..

Hopefully the Portugal trip is the last chance saloon for players to impress or be shipped out.

What else is he going to say mate?...

Anything to the counter of that would be criticism of his bosses.

He wouldn't have to criticise anyone mate.. saying he's 'confident' leads me to believe that he's exactly that, otherwise he wouldn't have to say it in the first place?

If all he'd said was that the board were 'working hard' with transfers and left it at that then you could read that a different way.

SELL TO BUY

Have you not read this forum? Everton are the ONLY club in Europe and indeed the history of the game, who operate on a sell to buy policy.
