The rumours about Tom Pearce, left back from Leeds who recently broke into their first team haven't gone away. Released by Everton in 2014, the youngster from Ormskirk could follow a similar path as Baines in being released and then returning. Can't see him being ready for first team action but would fit the profile of a U23 signing/further loan opportunity.

Left-back options are very limited, there just aren't many good ones around, I personally would give Baines another year in the first team, and buy a backup for him, probably Luke Shaw would be the best choice. Swerve paying 37 million for Danny Rose.

I disagree, when he came back from injury he did pretty well. The weakest link was always the centre halves, and especially defending from set pieces. Williams just stood there more often than not.
