There's also the fact that Ziyech would be wasted on the wing. He would have to play central to be effective.

If Silva comes, we're likely to use a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 kind of hybrid.

I'd imagine we'd have Gueye and another in central midfield. Ideally, that 'other' will be someone like the lad from Lille who can get about the pitch and basically play the role Doucoure did at Watford or N'Diaye did at Hull under Silva.

We have Gylfi for that role just ahead of them, and also Davies/Klassen. It'd be nice to get some more options but it's not a priority I don't think.

So the winger for me has to be a real potential star - and Lozano fits that bill. Creative and can play on either side, perfect to interchange with Walcott.

Ship Bolasie off and Lookman is on hand to play there as well. Lookman also now has the added experience of playing in a front 3 or 2 at Leipzig.

See what you’re saying but if you put Davies in the 10 role all season he’d probably get you what, 5 goals? Based on his current form. Given that Rooneys going and Klaassen could well be a dud, we definitely need another creative player imo. Whether that’s Ziyech who knows, Brands will know how good he really is.

Yes, again I see legitimate skill and pace, vision and technique at a higher level than Lozano... however not as highly as i rate Ziyech and tbf i have seen less of Kluivert out of the three

I maybe mistyped, I wasn’t referencing amount of goals he has scored , I was referencing ability... there are many factors in why a player may score many goals... Niasse scored more than Tosun for example however Tosun has the better ability... Ziyech’s goals show consistent technique and finishing ability, Lozano’s seem more opportunistic

I am not trying to knock Lozano at all i just feel Ziyech is the better player

I get you. Brands will know the qualities of the two and who is most suited to our needs I guess.

Kluivert looks like he has real star quality about him, Brands has probably watched a lot of him too.

Who is this playmaker we already have on our books?

lol, fair play

I meant, another 'no.10'

It depends how we line up next year I suppose.

If we went and bought William Carvalho, then we could go and try and get Ziyech and have a really complimentary midfield pairing. Carvalho could do the sweeping and provide the physicality, and then Ziyech the deep-lying playmaker, with Gylfi in front. That could be changed depending who we played, with Ziyech or Gylfi dropping out for Gueye - horses for courses etc.

But based on Silva's previous sides he has liked a player to provide that box-to-box energy and powerful, physical presence all in one.

Has Silva ever used 3 at the back in the Prem?

I think the box to box player is Gueye. I mean what else does he do? He has no positional sense to sit deep and distribute and is not a number 10 so I’d see him as the box to box player. I’d rather replace him with a better one but I think other positions are more in need.

If Schneiderlin goes (hopefully) we need a deeplying defensive midfielder who can distribute the ball (unless Besic is rehabilitated) then the manager needs to decide does he want Siggurdson at 10 or axe him and have a 3 in midfield in which case a new player is probably needed.

Left back, centre back, and winger also more important.

Gana would be a terrible B2B player.

What position does he play then? Because I struggle to see it. He doesn’t sit deep (as evidenced by the numerous times we were completely run through) he doesn’t get forward and create. What does he do? He chases back a bit to tackle when he’s inevitably out of position but aside from that there’s nothing to his game. A less talented Sissoko.

The reason we got run through so often was because he was asked to be a box-to-box player - for some bizarre reason our managers think he's Kante.

Gana has a very specific skill set of pressing opponents, winning the ball and covering our full backs and that is all he should be asked to do.

Harrass, tackle, pass to our - hopefully new - B2B midfielder & cover our rampaging full-backs.

If we ask him to do more we may as well just have him on the bench.

Aye I get what you're saying mate.

It's catch 22. I think we need some power and height in midfield, but we also could do with a sexy playmaker to tie it all together - ideally with Gylfi playing just in front to get on the end of things at the edge of the box as well.

Going into fantasy/FIFA/Zatman land here, like, but something akin to:

Pickford

Coleman/Kenny
Keane/Holgate
New CB/Jagielka
New FB/Baines

Carvalho
Ziyech (or maybe someone like A

Walcott
Sigurdsson
Lozano

Tosun

I mean, that's a team that could challenge most sides. It's got a bit of everything. With the likes of Gueye, DCL, Lookman, Vlasic, Davies etc in reserve. Bin Schneiderlin off, but only if we can get someone like Carvalho in as an improvement.

We'll wait to see what happens with Sandro and Klaassen as well. The latter, at least, may provide Silva with that player that can fill the void in between defence and attack.

This. Baffled why people - and our inept management - can't see this.

It's why I say a box-to-box, Doucoure-type player might be the priority, because Gana is more than good enough to play for us. His presence there allows our full-backs to charge on. But he needs a player there with him to actually propel us up the pitch, and provide some extra power and physicality.

I don't want him back, but he would have been good next to Barkley.

It’s frustrating because we’re in a situation again where about 5 positions are all priorities. And it’s never gonna gel straight away when you fill them all at once. That recruitment last summer has done us over badly.

I’m unsure on Carvalho, but for the CB I want Lascelles. We need a big dominant centre half and a big dominant centre mid.
