Top speed accounts for nothing these days (especially not the other year). It’s all about acceleration over a few yards. Andy Carrol was Liverpool’s quickest player at one point and Bilyaletdinov was ours. Both were considered ‘slow’ though on the football pitch. I like Jags but he’s not at the level we need.

I wouldn’t buy them, but currently Maguire and Evans is a better pairing than anything we’ve got.

I do rate Evans actually but I feel we need a different type of defender.
