“Of course, we want a normal number in our squad and we are working on both sides,” Silva said.

“Of course, after the next weekend I will start taking some decisions as well because we will have finalised the third week of pre-season and that is the moment to take some important decisions about our players as well.

“And we expect in the next few days the new players we need will start to arrive.”

“I'm confident,” Silva added, on landing his targets.

“If you ask me, in a normal situation it is not the perfect situation because this season the market will close early, this is new for us.

“In a normal situation we have maybe already signed one or two players, we haven't signed anybody yet but we have until the end of the market to sign our targets and it is something we have to do because we need and we need to give a signal for our team and for our fans what we want for the season.”

Everton are one of only three Premier League clubs yet to make a signing but the Blues boss added: “We know and it is clear for us what we need.

"It's clear for me as well, our board and our owner, it is clear they know what we need. It is clear what our targets are and where we want to improve our squad well.

“Of course, the boys are working well and are working really hard but, like all the other teams, we want to improve our squad and be more competitive as well.

“But now we are working and they know what we want and what we need.”

Everton have already sold Ramiro Funes Mori and Wayne Rooney, allowed Joel Robles to leave on a free and sent Luke Garbutt out on loan.

But Silva says he does not need to sell more players in order to start this summer's signings.

“The challenge is a normal thing, we are here to take decisions to improve our squad, the get Everton better and better because we have to do this,” he continued.

Its almost like he WANTED to see how the players where for a few weeks of pre season before making decisions.

What a bizarre choice to make [/sarcasm]

Lookman is left/centre and Malcom plays on the right.

I think we may be after Richarlison too...

2 Brazilian 21 year old wingers..

Agree with you on this after what happened in the past 2 seasons. Buying 27-28 years old means there is no resale value afterall.

No idea why, but i dont think Lookman will be here at the start ofnthe season! The lad just looks like he doesnt want to be here?

@davek i remember last summer you and our friend here debating the resale value of some of our signings in recent times.

He has gone full cirlcle and to our way of thinking now.

Amazing.

Mental when we want to become self sufficient we signed Icelandic Johnny Wilkinson, Yannick Bolasie and Williams in recent times.

I think our main problem in shifting players is the fact that Brands came out and said we have to sell to buy, clubs aren't going to offer what we want knowing that that's the situation. Should have just kept his mouth shut and got on with things.

Moshiri is an absolute loon, allowed the club to buy players with no resale and then next season cries about it.

You know what Moshiri you made this bed you lie in it.

..not sure he said we have to sell to buy, but he did say the squad is too big and players need to be moved on. I might be wrong, but it could be more about a good housekeeping strategy than finance.

The amount of crap you are talking is unbelievable. When I questioned about the signing the like in Williams etc you were on the other side. How silly was it?

I was not against sell to buy. Resale value of a player. Never. The signing of Bolasie etc did not work because at the time such signings were aimed to push this club on to a top 4 side in 3 seasons. Do you have anything to do in life other than biting my ass everyday? You get my reaction now happy days.

The thinking at the time, and within some forum posters too, is that we needed to buy ready made players to compete and win something - hence the experienced players with no re-sale.

The fact that it didn't work is in part because you'd have to spend a lot more (...a left back and a striker for example) and in part because he trusted the wrong people with that money.

It's the trust he got wrong.

And, to be fair to him, I don't think he has made many decisions that a sizeable part of the fanbase didn't want - splash the cash, sack Martinez, Koeman, Allardyce etc.

All that said, with his Jim White texts and Voodoo stories, he is a character for sure.
