Disagree about Koeman.

He was signed because he’d just had 6th and 7th placed finishes with Southampton and was a highly sought after manager as a result of that.

There was even talk of Arsenal getting him.

Let’s not rewrite history.
I'm I right in thinking when he signed he went on holiday for two weeks
Before coming to Everton to meet the players etc ?

I was quite excited by Koeman; but there were still reservations from me.

When we got Koeman, I'd wanted Silva. Koeman, has had success as a manager, but equally some clubs and he didn't get on.

At his time of appointment, he'd been sacked by Benfica, AZ & PSV, so in that regard it was a risk (although I didn't realise why, at the time).

He inherited a fantastic squad at Southampton, and came here with arrogance. The rumours of Erwin taking training, Amongst other rumours, whatever it was, he just didn't respond well to being our manager.

But, he inherited a Southampton team with the likes of Mane, Lallana, Pelle, Tadic, Fonte, Clyne, Alderweireld etc... they were actually an excellent side.

I think most managers would have been doomed, having a DOF, Zealous owner and being allowed free reign... but Koeman always came with risk, for me.

big swinging moment for me was not getting a left winger in 2015 summer

we ended up playing some of the best footy in the league up until christmas, just weren’t clinical enough and leaky at the back

the one position we really lacked was an attacking left sided player. ended up playing the likes of Kone and Cleverley out there

think if we’d signed Shaqiri or someone similar we’d have really kicked on but we were outbid by Stoke

then the money came but we had horrendous decision makers for our recruitment

I think they tried to push the boat in '88 but unfortunately that big splash was not good. They signed Cottee for a new record (2.2m) as well as McCall, Nevin and McDonald for sizeable sums. But they were not as good as the players they replaced. Harvey was a great coach but not a good manager but he was the obvious choice to follow Kendall.

That summer we lost Mountfield, Power, Harper, Stevens, Heath and Reid.

Next summer also saw quite a few big signings, unfortunately most were not up to the task: Keown, Newell, Rehn, Whiteside (by far the best signing), Atteveld and Beagrie. But we also lost Steven, van den Hauwe, Bracewell and Clarke.
Only one I have time for is Cottee. He was an excellent player and was sadly surrounded by s***te.

In my opinion most of our current problems go back to 2017 and all the money we wasted. We sold a top class striker in Lukaku, yet somebody, I don't know who decided it was a good idea to buy Sigurdsson and Klassen. Add to that we had signed Rooney on an expensive contract. We then bought Vlasic and Sandro, when we had only just bought Lookman in January. So we ended up with a team with zero pace and we lost player who scored most of our goals. We went from going into summer, expecting to challenge for Europe, to bringing in Allardyce to save us from relegation. Our 4th choice right back in Martina at left back. So does anyone on here actually know who made these signings. Was it Koemann, Walsh, Moshiri or Kenwright?

A combination of Walsh and Kenwright IMO.

With Kia rotten Joorachian getting in on the act via Moshiri.

One man who wasn’t involved was Koeman.

He wasn’t arsed enough to give a monkey’s who we signed.

Absolutely right.

That was the day I suspected his reign would end in tears.

(not for him, of course…he walked away with a fortune then fell upwards to Camp Nou)

This is my fear if we target too many Soucek types. A few are fine but that was a ridiculous window and saddled us for years. Also some of the names there were not ready, not good enough or not needed. We need to get a better hit rate with transfers

Personally think the signings of Gomes, Mina, Gbamin, Kean, Iwobi, Delph - the fees paid and contracts given destroyed the club more then the year the OP mentions.

Id have Walsh back here in heartbeat over Brands - the Emperors New Clothes of DOF's and faux PR.

I bet you can still get people defending him.
