Yeah, ultimately that’s just about titles.

Everyone wants this DoF - manager / coach structure. But how many does it actually work for?
It works for plenty of clubs, Eddie Howe is the only person in the current top 12 I would describe as a managerial type, the rest are more training ground guys. I have no doubt they like to be kept abreast of what is going on transfer wise but ultimately would rather be out on the grass with the players.

I don’t think that’s the definition. There aren’t managers who’d rather be knee deep in scouting reports than managing players.

Honestly, I agree with you 100%, Manager-heavy influenced recruitment simply does not work in the modern game, but a DOF having total control over recruitment from top to bottom isn’t going to happen while Moyes is manager.

There have been plenty of murmurs about Moyes possibly having more influence over recruitment (which he shouldn’t). If that’s the case, do you scrap the DOF altogether?

My point is even if Moyes has a say on signings, having a DOF is still better than not having one at all.
If Moyes has control over recruitment he will think short term … and only first team ready players …..he has two years on his own contract after this summer.

DOF should have a much longer term vision and include under 16’s up.

I had the feeling Thelwell was finally starting to fulfil that brief last summer

TFG should make a statement signing. Go in there and blow the opposition away with an elite signing.
That would be our entire budget on 1 player. We're nowhere near that point yet. We need 3 or 4 first team players and the same again in squad fillers. If that works out we'll probably need 3 or 4 new players for the next 3 years. If that works out then we can get a statement signing.

Delap, Hutchinson, KWP and Dibling all improve us. I’d take Greaves as a Keane replacement too
Delap too expensive, we've missed that boat. Hutchinson is no better than McNeill, Dibling is way overpriced for what he's achieved although he shows great promise.KWP on a free would definitely be good unless he wants stupidity high wages.
