Summer transfer speculative hopes and dreams

Can't believe Victor Moses hasn't been mentioned. Martinez is a known admirer, he's back at Chelsea and apparently doesn't want to go to Stoke. If Mirallas goes then he'll be linked. Had a decent season at Soke to be fair but he's no Shaqiri or Mertens

agreed. Any significant transfer (money-wise) depends on a sale first. Our financials limit RM to another 10-15 mio quid (max) this window. And before everybody yells "what about the McGeady money Bill"?, I suggest 750,000 pence doesn't buy you much footballing talent (as Celtic will shortly find out)
If that's the case then the above team I listed is about as good as we can hope for.

They really need to make 12m more available to allow us to buy in Shaqiri or someone else. Over the course of a season it will probably be the difference between a good season and a bad one.

Contract Non..... smiley man got a mention in an Echo article... they never put a picture up though...

Quoted for those on a boycott

DAVE HARRISON - CLUB SECRETARY
The smiling figure pictured alongside new recruits as they scribble their signature on a freshly-minted contract, Harrison has clocked-up more travel miles than Judith Chalmers.

He jets to wherever the player is being signed from and helps oil the wheels of each deal, liaising with his opposite number and making sure every aspect of the transfer is covered such as work permits and player registration.

A real people’s person, Harrison’s diplomatic skills and quiet competence make him a well-liked figure in football and position the Toffees well in the market.

Never say never. If the money doesn't stretch far enough or we miss out on our targets that's exactly the type of player we will bring in on a deadline day loan.

So after all that we are looking at.

Holding midfield/centre midfield:
- Barry
- Besic
- McCarthy
- Cleverley
- Barkley (will probably see some match time at a deeper position this season)

Attacking midfield:
- Barkley
- Cleverley
- Deuloefu
- Mertens

Wingers (or players who can play there at least:
- Deuloefu
- Cleverley
- Mertens

An injury to either Deulofeu or Mertens has us playing Cleverly on the wing or changing formation. We also don't really have a great formation to counteract teams that park the bus.

But you are probably right. The tight-asses who run the club probably think that will do.

If sell Mirallas I'm confident we'd get another winger in to replace him.

So I'd imagine our business would be:
IN
Mertens (playmaker)
Lennon (winger)
Centre Back
Possibly a young striker on loan

OUT
McGeady
Mirallas

OK we're going round in circles.

Basically you would prefer Lennon over Shaqiri and I the opposite. ;)

I think Shaqiri is the better player, but realistically I think we'd go for Lennon because a) it's likely Shaqiri will already have been taken elsewhere and b) I don't think we'll have enough cash and c) Shaqiri is similar to what we already have in Del and Barkley.

1. Very possible. I think Lennon is our backup too.
2. 5m difference. If that's the reason then this board really do need to go.
3. Shaqiri is best in the center which is actually the main reason I would prefer him over Lennon. Barkley doesn't cope well with parked busses. At International level Shaqiri seems to strive playing against them

Agreed. For the £5m difference you have someone that is likely to not only increase in value over time, which the opposite to Lennon, and also IMO he is the type of player we could really use as another direct option.

Liverpool had an incredible season the year before last (not even bothered admitting it because they ruined it themselves by flopping last year lol), by being direct and having a pacey front line mixed with a high-pressure possession style.

They flopped last season simply because the two best players who offered the direct attacking were Sturridge and Suarez were obviously out injured/ busy winning the Champions League instead.

The best way to break down 10 men behind the ball, is to keep going at them until you get one chance and score. If we had Lukaku, Mirallas, Shaqiri, Mertens, Deulofeu and Barkley as our options, we'd be one of the most dangerous teams in the league.

Without doing a Football Manager style post (which I think isn't even far off how most teams operate these days):

Sell:
Gibson
McGeady

Buy:
Shaqiri
Mertens
Van Dijk

By doing this, which should be within our means, we'd smash everyone all over the place.

I agree but I think Dann is probably a safer option to Van Dijk. That said Van Dijk's pace would be useful.
