why don't you get mad at it after watching him play for a season? if he's utter crud you'll be thinking "glad we didn't sign him" and then it doesn't matter if we were outbid or whatnot. not even on FM do teams bid for a player and nobody knows about it. we clearly haven't bid for him otherwise someone somewhere would have reported it!

johhny evans - he's been linked about 15 transfer windows in a row and nothing close has happened. yes cleverley was linked pretty much every window since martinez has been here, but there was actual interest and it was specific to the manager. evans has been linked since moyes was here.

Just realised that McGeady is the only permanent signing Martinez has made of a player he hasn't already managed for at least a season...

Ahh fair point mate, still it is alarmingly lopsided in terms of only going for 'safe' options, guess we can put Eto'o into the mix too with those two...

As a relatively poor club we don't have the luxury Liverpool do of spending big and it not coming off, his tactic is fine by me. Even the ones which don't fit the trend were calculated gambles at cheap fees. Only 1 of the 3 looks like it'll pay off but hey, it beats spending £20m on Markovic. Can see him sticking his neck out for this playmaker though, probably about £15m so it absolutely has to be the right buy.
