Summer transfer speculative hopes and dreams

As a relatively poor club we don't have the luxury Liverpool do of spending big and it not coming off, his tactic is fine by me. Even the ones which don't fit the trend were calculated gambles at cheap fees. Only 1 of the 3 looks like it'll pay off but hey, it beats spending £20m on Markovic. Can see him sticking his neck out for this playmaker though, probably about £15m so it absolutely has to be the right buy.

Totally agree mate, just had me wondering has any other manager been as lopsided in terms of targeting players he's got experience with, smacks of being unsure of his scouting network or own judgement

brendan rodgers is the answer to your question for about the first 5 years of his managerial career. last summer he just ran out of former players.

Think Martinez has run his well of former players dry now too tbh, be interesting who he actually targets

at swansea he was buying all sorts. bought a couple of them for wigan and did the same here - but was hardly much more than what managers do when they start off.

The 6th year would be more wages so close to £100k a week I guess?

Either way, they will most likely be paying him 73k+ when hes 33, assuming hes stayed that long, he will have been at West Ham for 5 years, winning naff all, I would imagine his work rate will be lacking at that point.

Any bids for Charlie Austin yet? He'd jump at the chance to play for us rather than Leicester/Newcastle. We only have One Striker who scores goals who I think is coming along nicely but what if he's injured? 12-15m for a lad who's proven he can score at the level for a woeful side is surely a bargain in this day and age. Maybe I'm missing something but I think he'd be a terrific addition
@physioroom: #NUFC appear to be unwilling to match QPR £15 million valuation for striker Charlie Austin over concerns of a pre-existing shoulder problem

You've got a point, there's not many prem managers who play it as safe as Bobby does. After the season he's had though getting such safe signings in is understandable, if he gets more signings wrong like Kone/Alcaraz/McGeady it's another stick to beat him with. I wouldn't say he's afraid, but I would say he's being incredibly wary.

Not really worth it for us at all in fairness.

We need someone quality for that position though.

Hes a risk, if he was proven talent, im sure we would be all over it, but for me, its a massive, massive risk, up to West Ham if they wanna take it, clearly we thought it wasnt worthwhile.
