Though the Brazilian player has a contract until December 31, so he could start negotiating with any other club six months before that date (that is, from July 1), Santos have approached FIFA to denounce a supposed "harassment" of their midfielder, Lucas Lima, by Barcelona.

Their ire appears to stem from negotiations beginning before the deadline allowed.

The Sao Paulo team is wary of an agreement allegedly signed between Lima and Barcelona, but "is sure" that the Catalans "looked for the player before the deadline allowed, not complying with the FIFA transfer regulations," according to GloboEsporte and other Brazilian media.

"The case is in the hands of the legal department," said a Santos statement.

"Barcelona is a repeat offender."

It recalls the case of Neymar, who allegedly closed an agreement with the Catalans in 2011, although his contract with the Brazilian club was extended until 2014.

Lima, 26, has an offer to renew with Santos for the next four years, but his representatives say it is possible to get better economic conditions at a European club.

The midfielder has denied any kind of agreement with Barcelona recently, despite previously indicating he was looking forward to his new career at the Camp Nou.

Could this be the magic we're looking for...?

...we were linked with Santos midfielder, Lucas Lima this morning. Thought that was an interesting one given his position as a creative midfielder.

Think he's effectively already signed for barca as a favour to his brother in law neymar mate.

He's also supposedly not very good either. But throwing our name out as interested probably makes it sound less dodgy them signing him etc.

Santos have not made a complaint against Barcelona about any illegal approach for Lucas Lima, a spokesman for FIFA has told ESPN FC.

Barca have been linked with a move for Lima, who is out of contract at the end of the year, and sources have told ESPN Brasil that a pre-contract agreement has been reached ahead of a January transfer.

However, as the Brazil international's terms do not expire until Dec. 31 he is not permitted to hold talks with other clubs until July 1, when he enters the final six months of his deal.

Santos are reported to be angry after learning of a potential agreement between the midfielder and Barcelona, with some reports claiming they had taken the case to FIFA.

But a spokesman said: "We have not received any claim from Santos against Barcelona."

Lima, represented by the N&N consultancy company run by Neymar's father, is the latest player to be caught up in the middle of the fraactious relations between Santos and Barcelona.

Santos wanted Neymar to be banned for six months in 2015, accusing their former player of being in breach of his contract when negotiating his transfer to the Camp Nou.

In a further dispute between the clubs last year, Barca took legal action against Santos because they felt the Brazilian side did not comply with their preferential option to sign striker Gabriel Barbosa.

An agreement between the clubs in 2013 stipulated that Barca should have been permitted three days to evaluate whether they signed the forward once another club had made an offer, but Santos gave them just one day's notice before selling him to Inter Milan for €25 million.

Just sounds like Santos and Barca have MAJOR beef.

This time, an excellent gif provided by the peerless @Sapie88

This week saw a much lighter sprinkling of Weasel Sightings - in no doubt due to the decline in Sandro discussions - and a generally quiet time on the rumour front.

Until yesterday, where all of a sudden, we had MOVEMENT.

Some thoughts:

  • Lots of nice new names on there this week. I am delighted to see Weasel Breeding continues on this upward trajectory.
  • @AndyC doing a quick-fire hattrick in there, incredible, wasn't expecting it.
  • Still no quality sightings of a couple of Perennial Weasels. But I've not given up hope.
  • We are so, so close to this list going into mayhem with @themole10 god status being bestowed. So close. Might even happen tonight, but that's the danger of print journalism I suppose.
As ever, it is the Weasel Hunters who do all the hard yards. This is simply a collection, a recording of their work.
