Well there's failing and there's failing. As I stated elsewhere, if we fail to get a CL spot it can only be by a couple of points or so and we have to have been in the running for it realistically. If that's the case then I suppose it's a relative failure. If we fall short of 5th and we're 5/6/7 points off the CL spots and fail to get a cup then we really are just wasting time here with this feller and we may as well give the cash he's paid to some other manager.

What if he gets 74 points and its only good enough for 7th?

That's an incredibly softened stance I must say...

In an attempt to get this back on topic, who should we sign next?
It's what I've been saying mate.

This feller is going to have to do a lot better than I think he can in order to meet any of those demands. He;s just not up to getting a decent points total and doesn't have any interest in cup competitions.

It is, but the post you replied to was my comment on why I dont like Giroud!!

ah ffs. i love giroud but i have no idea what we're going to do with the striker situation. Think he'd thrive here tbh, world cup year, he needs to go somewhere where he'll be the main striker and well he's way too good for a team like west ham.

Hes a very good player and would thrive in the system Ronny is likely to play, but still, HIS FACE.

How do you build into your thesis surrounding our performance the fact the clubs around us are also paying big cash? I could maybe understand if we were the only club spending but I bet our spend is still less than at least five of the top six. Therefore I would be interested in finding out how you can gauge progress without taking into account our rivals spending, considering you consider the nature of increased spending definitely means better league position.

Think it's difficult to put a league position as a target as we can't control what other teams do apart from when we play them. I gave him a 60 point target this season which was achieved. If it wasn't for the bad run in Oct/Nov we could have hit 70 easily. Taking that into account and with the supposed improvement in personnel I would expect 75 points minimum next season. If that gets us 3rd or 6th is irrelevant.
