It's not as if we have accepted a bid. All this lukaku on the verge of MU medical and they haven't even agreed a deal with Everton.

Agree. I think that they thought they were the only club interested and banked on Rom's desire to return, so they could hold out and force us to accept a low fee later on in the window.

There's plenty of ways the two bids could differ despite being for the same "value".

For instance:

Team A offers: £20m up front and then £2.5m per month for 22 months;
Team B offers: £35m up front and then £1m p/m for 40 months.
