Summer Transfer Window 2017

Why is Tim losing his head?

We'd made so much progress Tim. So much...

Genuinely though, there's over six weeks of the window left to go. We've signed six players, all of which were brought in before Rom had 'officially' left.

We've got our targets I am sure, and it's now just a case of making sure we get our primary ones. There's literally no need to panic and the additions we've brought in so far have given us breathing room heading into pre-season.

I expect Sandro, Pickford and Holgate will be returning to the fold by next Monday at the latest as well.

I'm not panicked at all. Not even slightly as worried compared with last summer.

Just want to see a good striker in soon. Earlier the better, preferably before the European games, but definitely before the league starts.

Lukaku has been replaced, by Sandro.

Appears Rom knew he was off to Man United ages ago. Would indicate why our staff were all talking Rooney up so much. Loads of transfers are done months in advance.

Clearly we are still in the market for others but they are not as far down the line as the business we have done so far.
I would expect a lot of our deals so far were all but signed off before the season had ended.

I expect to see more players come in but they will be less straight forward.

I'd strap yourselves in folks cause I think the next couple of signings now may be much more difficult to get through, can see a bit of a lull coming. Think Swansea will posture over sigurdsson right up till deadline day, which Poses the question what the hell is happening with Ross?

The striker is gonna be a tricky one too, we seem to be going for players that the teams won't be keen to sell i.e giroud and benteke.

My main pondering of today is, who was walsh in Italy to have discussions about - as no firm links/bids have come from it?

Would love it to be Icardi, think he'd be proper cat nip for the North face crew in the lower Glawdys....

We are gonna be shafted whoever we go for now. Not the smartest idea to sell before we bought.
I understand where you're coming from mate but, in fairness, we were never going to be in total control of Lukaku's sale. To a degree we called the shots, but whoever were buying him would want him in early, and if we messed about with delaying tactics there would be a danger of the sale falling through, scuppering everyone's plans. It isn't just the money from Lukaku's transfer that affects our plans, it's the profit we make on the player that takes away all fears of salary caps and FFP.

Plus we did of course bring in 6 players before Lukaku was sold, including 3 attacking players albeit one had to be sent back out on loan. I accept none of these are, or will be, a direct replacement for Lukaku, but nevertheless I don't think you can fault the clubs dealings this transfer window. I'm not been a big supporter of the clubs hierarchy, but I think they've played a blinder so far this window.

Because there's people arguing that what we see is change.

I think the club knew it was getting £100m from Man United months ago.

Thus asked for Rooney, which was agreed (hence talking him up so much on that SKY day), and then set about targeting and bringing in the best available to improve the squad. Pickford, Keane, Klaassen and then hoped Sandro and Onyekuru would come here.

I think we have come out of the Lukaku saga far stronger. He clearly did not want to be here.

Of course I would like to see the club spend even more but any business, and that is what football is, that can strengthen it's hand whilst breaking even is extremely well run.

We are desperate for success, but we are putting the pieces in place. The U23s are producing high quality players and we are snapping up some of the best young talent around. Hopefully it will all bear fruit soon.

WRD has posted but cant get on the site.

Here it is.

Think our interests have cooled in Bas Dost due to the ridiculous amount they want but I hear we've taken an interest in Max Meyer. Had a scout over there on two occasions last year to watch him.

Also hear we are about to enquire about Sigurdsson's availability and price in the coming days, if the deal is right for both clubs then we will get him.

Benteke is nothing put papers rumours from what I know. Looking at another centre half but no names as of yet.

This is what I wanted to say!

I think 35m or there abouts and it's a great deal. Less than half of the price of Lukaku, a proven Premiership performer, loves a goal with his head but can use his feet too. Very physical, could complement our other forwards nicely.
Wouldn't argue with that mate. However I'd be shocked if we only had to pay £35m for him. He cost Palace over £30m last summer and I'd be surprised if they're prepared to let him go for less than £50m.

I think that we get more value paying £25m/£30m for up and coming young talent, like we did earlier in the window. Provided they can improve the team/squad immediately, with the upside of future potential, I prefer to see us pursue this strategy. I agree we need some experience up there (to compliment Rooney of course) but not paying the prices we are starting to see for players that may not be at our level in a season or two (and won't command the same sell on fee).
