I'm not oblivious to the fact that we're short up front, but personally I do not think that Wayne is a suitable answer for a multitude of reasons.Fair enough.
I just look at our current striking options (bar Rom) and fail to see how Rooney wouldn't improve us.
I won't be devastated if he doesn't come, and I won't be overjoyed if he does. I'm basically not arsed either way but if he did come in I think he'd improve us.
First, he's struggled for fitness due to a number of different niggling injuries, however when he was fit he wasn't exactly first choice material.
He is no longer the pacey, intimidating striker with a prowess in front of goal he once was, hence why he's struggling to get regular game time.
If we want to catch the likes of Manure, then surely we should be looking for a reliable alternative to support or challenge Romelu on regular basis.
Then there's the issue of wages: even if he took a two-third pay cut then he'd still be commanding £100k per week. Will he accept a larger drop?
Personally, I'd feel hard pressed to accept anything that's above many of our other talented players, but I doubt Rooney would think the same.
Obviously there's the potential financial rewards because of shirt sales et al, but once again he's a waning star so I think these are exaggerated.
So for me it's mostly a view of sentiment and hoping for the best, as such I'd rather spend the money on a younger, more reliable player.
