Summer Transfer Window 2017

Squawka quoting Pep as saying that Kelechi Iheanacho will definitely leave Man City this summer, but saying he'll probably go to Leicester. I wonder if we tried to sign him?

I'd like him better than Giroud, or any of the others being mentioned as an incoming striker.

Apparently City are insisting on a buy back clause and its not much more than the actual fee. Wouldnt want to touch that.

A Barca buyback when we didnt have much money was one thing, a City buyback when we have a new owner, money to spend and aspirations to reach the top are another.

Few thoughts:

  • Can we go back in Koulibaly? Mori's injury means we can't go into a 60-game season with Keane, Jags and Williams (and maybe Holgate). Jags and Williams together terrify me. Why not bid £50m for that man monster. Perfect partner for Keane, plays left CB as well.
  • Barry is more than adequate as a back up to Schneiderlin for this season. I hope he stays and gets the record.
  • Barkley - Rooney can mentor him. Anyone who thinks he isn't good enough watch the youtube montage of his first season. Martinez was awful for Barkley. We need that energetic, fearless Evertonian back.
  • Connolly/Kenny - I would be worried going into games with both of these starting.
  • Giroud - for £20m sign him up!
  • Sigurdsson - good player, but if Barkley is he really needed - who would start on the left?
Squad in order of selection:
GK: Pickford, Stek
RB: Coleman, Kenny, Cuco
LB: Baines, Connolly, Cuco
CB: Koulibaly, Keane, Williams, Jagielka, Holgate, Funes Mori
DCM: Schneiderlin, Barry, Besic
CM: Gueye, Klassan, Davies, McCarthy, Walsh
AM: Rooney, Barkley
RW: Bolasie, Lennon, Dowell
LW: Sigurdsson, Mirallas, Lookman
CF: Sandro, Giroud, Calvert-Lewin

Caveat is that those 3 in bold will cost £100m+, but Jesus......

Damnit, this lack of activity transfer-wise is like going cold turkey after being on a three week binge of drink and drugs! (Just say no kikds!)

With Funes Mori out for so long, is it time to bring back a certain strapping Irish centre-half?

He's been away for three years honing his craft, and will be able to provide an aerial threat from set pieces, which will no doubt be useful if we sign Mr Siggurdsson

And if his Twitter is anything to go by, he still looks out for us and thinks of us warmly

Bring Shaneo Home Koeman!

See I'm not quite sure I understand this logic.

Don't get me wrong, it's not ideal, but I don't really see what the issue is with effectively getting a player for free for 2 years. I mean, if we pay £20m for Giroud for example, we won't get that back in 2 years time when he's 33 will we? Same with Dzeko. So why would it be worse to pay £20m for someone who retains their value than pay the same fee for someone who doesn't?

I'm not advocating buying Iheanacho by the way, just saying I wouldn't necessarily be averse to that type of deal if we could benefit from it.

I'd pay the big money to make City agree to no buyback. He is/will be top class and really well rounded.

Sigurddson £45m + Giroud £20m
Or
Viera £25m + Iheanacho £40m

I know which I'd take. Paul Merson and his ilk would probably have a fit about how many starts he's had but he's worth it.

Problem with that arrangement is if the player is a success you know you will lose him in two years, yet he would block the way for his replacement to get game time (if you already have one that is). It's an arrangement suitable for desperate measures only.

Do you think Chelsea, City, Man Utd, Arsenal would ever buy a player from each other with a buyback clause in? No top team would entertain it.

Im not a fan of it at all tbh. I know its common place in Spain, however we now have a situation where due to Lukaku, DeBruyne etc the likes of Chelsea, City and Man u will start to insert them into deals whenever they are selling a prospect.

So they hoover up all the prospective talent, repeatedly send them on loan waiting for them to fulfill potential and when they are not quite at the level, they sell them with an option to buy back if the player turns into a star - its covering every angle and shouldnt be allowed to become common here.

I would hope not. We have Keane, Williams, Jags and Holgate, and others who can step in. We have bigger priorities.
That's a frighteningly poor choice. Especially if we want to challenge the Top 6. We are an injury and a suspension away from Jags and Holgate with no subs. In reality, Keane is the only top quality CB we have. I think its vital we go and spend money on a good quality centre back. Thought that even before Funes Mori was injured.

They wouldnt sell without one and what may seem like big money now could be a bargain in future the way prices are going (like Lukaku - that was seen as a huge price then)

Iheanacho is good, but just isn't what we need as a priority, IMO.

Just wait and see what Koeman - one of the best defenders there has been - makes of Besic at CB before jumping to conclusions.

If he thinks it's required, we'll get another one in. But at the moment the forward areas are more of a priority.

Fair, horses for courses, I just think Iheanacho is going right to the top and is ready to start for a top 6 team already. And also think Sigurdsson is a one trick pony haha. I do like Giroud though.
