thanks to a powers of google i see the papers have linked quite a lot of our players to chelsea over the last several years and they haven't signed a single one of them. Tom Davies is now added to that fantastical list.

...I think he called it unsustainable, Mourinho has also voiced concerns. You have to think the bubble will burst and Everton need to be mindful of that but what a great time to be a player.

Yes I think it may only be a few years before transfer fees drop back down. I like the fact we're bigging bid but likewise we're a business and I want to see Everton remain financially healthy in the long run.

No he doesn't. Spurs won't be anywhere near this season

It's impossible to predict, but they've been the closest challenger for the last 2 seasons (even allowing for having dropped off the pace completely two years ago in the last 2 or 3 games). There isn't really any rational reason to completely write them off at this point. You might think that City, United etc have done impressive business and will be better equipped to push past them this season after bedding in under new bosses last year, but to say they won't be anywhere near doesn't really make any sense to me. Other than the Wembley thing I suppose. Can't see that helping them

They have reached their current peak IMO. Their high press style will be useless at Wembley and teams will find a way to combat it. They have very little cover for Kane or erikssen

Most of their players are basically at the ceiling of their ability atm, they are starting to sell off their depth - which means if they reinvest in younger backups then they have to help they succeed as well - notable and gone under the radar that they lost their head of recruitment last summer as well, and last summers buys for them where by and large horrible (Janssen and Sissoko).

they also have a business model of picking up cheaper bargains etc which has now been smashed to bits with the escalation in prices and the fact all 20 clubs have money to be able to throw around on any player they fancy now. Harder to pick up cheaper players when 20 other teams have money rather than just 6-7 (and typically they are looking for ready made players)

Wembley will hit them pretty significantly also, but even without that, Spurs have plateaued and they needed to invest in 2-3 players of a quality above what they already had starting for them, the owner isn't willing to do that by the looks of things - basically the stadium move has come a couple of years too early for them and will wreck them in the short term future

....a summary of Wednesday morning's rumours;

- ClubCall website suggest Everton are bracing themselves for interest in midfielder Tom Davies with Chelsea planning to swoop. The Daily Star go with the same story.

- According to 4th Official, Everton are about to hijack the deal of Newcastle United's 17 year old sensation, Lewis Gibson, from under the noses of rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

- Portuguese outlet, Correio de Manha, report Crystal Palace are the latest club joining Everton interest in Benfica striker, Raul Jimenez.

- At a press conference, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has issued a hands-off warning to all clubs linked with striker, Moussa Dembele. Rodgers said, "Moussa has been linked with 10 clubs, there's nothing in it from our perspective. There's no rush from Moussa, he loves it here".

- Everton are interested in Inter Milan's Brazilian striker, Gabriel Barbosa, according to Bleacher Report.

Love these posts, thanks Eggs.

Total avoidance of giving terrible journalism any more hits than needed. :)

Gabriel Barbosa. Would defo have him on Loan, with an option to buy. Can't see much legs in it though, doubt Koeman will take a risk on a temperamental Brazilian who struggled to settle at his last team.

Would defo swerve Giroud for dembele, would much rather us play the long game, he may not be amazing next season, but by the same token Giroud doesnt guarantee top four and is 30 and will be expensive, i think Rooney already covers us up front for experience.
