PL DUO EYE VANHEUSDE

Liverpool and Southampton are in the hunt for Inter Milan defensive starlet Zinho Vanheusde, according to Nieuwsblad.

The 18-year-old Belgian is under contract at Inter until 2019, while Chelsea and Everton have reportedly scouted him in the past.

Who out of the present top 6 do you think we have the most realistic chance of replacing?

The league is wide open, no reason to not have optimism heading into the season. I feel a few teams ahead of us have disadvantages - Chelsea (CL), Man City(copious changes), Man Utd(not enough changes given weaknesses), Spurs(Wembley), Liverpool(keeper/defence/midfield), Arsenal(defence/midfield).

I feel we have a big gap to close on the teams above, but it will certainly be helped by poor results from the teams above in order to catch up. Not forgetting our own disadvantages of many new faces.

This season, I feel we need to be realistic - People saying 7th won't be good enough, it will in the long term provided we improve on the points tally and get closer. We look a much stronger unit and I can see us not conceding as many next season, still think we need 2 more players up top to generate the belief we can crack the 5th onwards though.

Gyli Siggurdssons statistics aren't exactly amazing as it happens.

We're not going to, are we? Being realistic you can't really expect us to break up the top 6 in our first real season of change and progress can you? Imo it's all about cementing that 7th place even more and moving closer towards the top 6. Next season we might be in a better position to break that glass ceiling, because all glass eventually breaks if the pressure is high enough;)
Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but I think that the "top six" are also strengthening, where needed, and with higher quality players than we can attract, so doesn't matter what we do we may still fall further behind. I am not a person who sees the glass as half empty but, I think we are too many years behind tt ever catch up @Dutch Toffee. Soz.

i felt the same about bolasie, would have taken him for half of the price we paid as a squad filler. Anyway, i thought he was really good for us and you just know it's typical of our luck that he'll come back crap from the injury.

I don't think mahrez would have even considered us tbh, think he'd have laughed at us, he feels he should be playing for a CL regular team and our fans are going to be surprised at what gylfi can actually do from open play as well, based on the vast majority views on here. Swansea set up specifically to be dangerous from set plays last season, but he was brought in when they were still a keep the ball on the floor side. Last season was a bit of a one off from him, he's a very good playmaker when through the centre.

You might be right re Mahrez but the CL clubs in the PL are well stocked with play makers and there does not appear to be anyone willing to pay a good fee in Europe. I suspect a decent pay rise and are obvious ambition might have attracted him.

The injury Bolasie suffered was a very serious one and there were added complications. Even if he returns mid season he will struggle for match fitness and sharpness. Next season he will be 29. I don't think he will ever be more than a squad player now.
