It's such a waste, as I think an 'on it' Ross is a better player personally (a rarity I know). He's made his bed though now. No coming back from this for the lad.

...and I think the Sigurdsson v Barkley arguement has been done to death on this site. I just hope RK gets the player in he wants. It's a team he's building and will be judged on.

For the next 2-3 seasons Giroud will FAR outperform what Dolberg would do mate, if all you do is try build towards a future with recruitment, then it will always be 'next year', thats the failing of a moneyball approach in this sport.

I'm a HUGE Dolberg fan as you know, but Giroud is the player we need now.

You can only say that's a failing if you life in an alternate universe where players don't age. It's not always 'next year', because eventually it will by definition be 'the year'. Or if you have to sell all your talents. We are neither in an alternate universe, nor do we need to sell all our talents.

We need wingers with pace in the first 4-5 yards who can beat a man but i don't think we're looking for that type of player. I hate to say it but players like Mane or Salah would be perfect for us. Gray is just another overrated English headless chicken imo.

And i really don't know where Rooney's gonna play. Behind a target man like Giroud would be impossible. That would be the slowest partnerships of the PL.

That's what I heard about Williams last year...

Im pretty sure most people said he would be a 2 year stop gap, and instantly improve our defence. And thats exactly what hes been. As much as people want to complain, they also complained about our keepers, and yet we were vastly improved defensively last season.

Has to come from somewhere, and it wasnt Michael Keane last season.

Trust me there will be scenes if we end up gettng smashed all over the place in the first 4 or 5 fixtures.

I'm concerned that in recent seasons we've had that one "big name" player but for the first time in along time we haven't a talisman.

Scary that we don't have that one player who most of the top clubs would like to sign. I had hoped tgat the £50 million we are going to sign siggurdsson with could have gone towards an Isco type player.

Can't understand why people are still hung up on Ross Barkley, he has decided that the grass is greener elsewhere.

I say forget Ross and look at who we replace him with but at £50m is Siggi the right man ?

Here's a hypothetical question for the speed merchants. If Ross has a last minute change of heart, would you sack off sigurdsson and get Demarai gray? Would that be a more balanced squad in terms of attacking options (presuming we get a number 9 aswell).?

I would personally yes. I would also be much happier with that arrangement as well.

I think Gray is separate to Siggy though. We need pace in the team and are always on the look-out for bright young stars.

..he's the man the manager wants. From what we're told he thinks Sigurdsson will make the difference in this team so that has to be factored into the price.

United getting Matic is a massive blow to anyone else in the top 7, it cements them in at least forth for me before the season even kicks off. Does Sigurdsson make the same difference to us!?

One has done it in big games consistently for a constant top four and cup winning side whose system , the other for a relegation battler which system suited him
