Chelsea also started it a while back and make a fortune from loaning out and moving the players that don't make their first team on (more or less 100%)
Also helps them stay ahead of FFP (I think?!)
It appears a cynical strategy when it follows the Chelsea model, but I think you are right. I'd prefer to see some of those come through and play, but either way it helps the club to manoeuvre within the confines of FFP.

Abdennour is a very interesting shout @Eggs but surely a jet would be sent buying a player rather than getting rid (no Oumar jokes!). Can't think of any of ours likely to go there, unless its something very left field like Tarashaj.
Someone from one of or neighbour's being offloaded? Probably not James Norwood from Tranmere?
How about a Spanish goalkeeper? Would Robles be of interest to them?

why do we fail to gain a fee for so many players that aren't terrible? 500k for gibson, barry went for what? a million?
GIBSON was no loss and maybe the club knew more about him than we did
He seems to have issues at Sunderland as well
Maybe the club feel they are well shot of him
Barry fee was low but he's mid thirties and I think it was more of a loyalty and gratitude thing to let him leave for a low fee so he could get games and break giggs record
I suspect this will be his last season

yeah, exactly, we get the odd one like that where it's good, but spurs manage to make mega bucks for all their cast-offs. We don't even get close to that sort of income.
Gibson's RIDICULOUSLY injury prone, hadn't played in god knows how long and... well let's say "has some off the field issues" and leave it at that.

Barry is 54 years old.

Not getting much of a fee for those two is hardly surprising

We get silly money for a lot of our better players so it kind of balances itself out. The likes of Gibson, McGeady etc were paid well by us so we need to lower any transfer fees to make the move viable for the interested clubs.

Think we have been unlucky with injuries this summer. with players RK wanted out the door, Barkley, McCarthy and Mori potentially 80mil. I don't think the market will slow down, so we will hopefully still get good Money in for them.

We will probably take a hit on Ross though if he goes.

injuries this summer have impacted us a fair bit. I reckon players RK wanted to shift (Mori, Barkley , McCarthy) have affected our plans. Will the market's inflation slow down?....I don't think so

Barkley's a bit of an issue though...
