You could design a cryptic crossword clue eg:
1 across "Oh cack, a crap striker" includes a fellow who sounds like he's exactly that

{Hint "Oh cack, a crap striker" includes a fellow who sounds like he's exactly that }

Answer = Okaka
Not bad but it wouldn't make it into a crossword - words like 'crap' are a no-no. I'm a crossword compiler and one of my clues: 'Oh-oh, admirers scattered behind swelling (11)" wasn't deemed suitable because the answer was HAEMORRHOIDS!

Not only that, the answer isn't internationally known. I did manage to get away with a clue with ARTETA as the answer but, as it was a local (Kent) paper, without a proper crossword editor, it slipped through the net.

So another day dawns and a mega deal for a international star striker is doubtless just beyond that starry pink horizon
Step forward Mr (name under wraps to protect Jim White's exclusive)

If the answer is Okaka there'll be a lot more than a cross word on here.

......not long left now guys, just 1 day and 16 hours to complete our transfer business. Here's Wednesday morning's rumour round-up;

- The Times claims Everton have rejected a £25m bid from Chelsea for Ross Barkley and are holding out for nearer £40m.

- According to The Guardian, Everton are close to their ninth signing of this window with Nikola Vlasic due to complete his £9.26m move from Croatian outfit, Hadjuk Split.

- The Mirror are linking Everton with a loan approach for Watford reject Stefano Okaka, claiming Ronald Koeman is a fan of the one time Italian international. Okaka has played for more Serie A sides than he has scored Premiership goals. The 28 year old has notched 5 in 21 appearances for the Hornets which includes 2 against Everton last season and 1 this season against Liverpool.

- According to the Daily Mail, Everton have expressed an interest in Porto defender, Ivan Marcono. The 30 year old Spaniard meets Koeman's criteria for a left footed centre back.

- FootballLondon reports Everton are expected to seal a shock loan deal for Chelsea striker, Diego Costa.

- ESPN say Everton are rivalling Chelsea for the signature of Swansea striker, Fernando Llorente.

- 4th Official suggest Everton face a fight to land Cardiff striker, Kenneth Zohore. The Toffees have already had a bid turned down for the player who has 2 years left on his contract. Cardiff will only let the player leave for the right price.

- RMC Sport claim Valencia defender, Aymen Abdennour, is still a target for Everton and West Ham. The player has apparently passed a fitness test with Zenit but is holding out for a move elsewhere. His preference is thought to be a transfer to France where he has spent much of his career.

Reminds me of those old jokes : The only tanks in history to have four reverse gears were Italian ones; they also had one forward gear...in case they got attacked from behind.

French infantry guns for sale: almost new, only been dropped once...

Once dropped ... never used

Same as yesterday then.

Hopefully some excitement today

At least Myers is optimistic.
.

One thing i have learned the last few transfer windows is, not listen to these itk's
Did any of them know about henry or the croatian lad? Even the well publisised moves no one was ever really ahead of the pack.

And how much stuff have the likes of wrd got wrong this summer? Alan myers' benteke stuff, theesk staying away from names as he got found out, dave seed not giving a name but saying we are 'in for a striker' covering all bases, dave downie with his dembele stuff?

Holy smoke. Like trying to get a decent meal at the chippy about 5 minutes before they close this.
