Summer Transfer Window 2017

Tbf Jose does like a British spine in his English teams so wouldn't be surprised if Keane is the one.

Does he though mate?

ISn't that just a myth as he actually inherited a Chelsea team with Terry and Lampard already in it who where world class players.

Where is the English spine in his last Chelsea team exactly, or why did he not buy one English player into United this summer or January to start building that English spine?

By all accounts Smalling, Jones are getting binned off, he is bollocking Shaw publicly nearly every week and Carrick isn't getting offered a new contract.

Utter myth that he likes an English spine like

16/17 - 4 players signed - none English
15/16 - 12 players signed - none English
14/15 - 7 players signed - none English
13/14 - 13 players signed - none English

06/07 - 5 players signed - 1 English (Ashley Cole)
05/06 - 10 players signed - 1 English (Shawn Wright Phillips)
04/05 - 5 players signed - none English

So in 7 seasons managing in England he has signed 56 players - 2 of whom have been English - and one of those was arguably the best in the world in his position at the time.

Jesus wept. 'Spine' of a team - goalkeeper, centre backs, centre mids, centre forward(s)

Three english players - a Right back, left wing, centre mid.

left back, one centre mid, two centre backs.

Last home game vs Chelsea, 2017

One striker, one left winger

I suppose it beats slating Ross Barkley

Basically like with the youth thing, he won't ever go out and choose that, it's only if it's already on his doorstep when he takes over, Lampard and Terry - any manager would have played them, Cole - any manager would have wanted to have signed and played him.

But as for him out of choice going for English players, not a chance in hell, same as he won't go out and buy a 21 yo if he has an option of a 28yo of similar ability

He's the anti @Zatara really

Mourinho will go abroad for 1-2 centre backs - and go for ones already more proven (especially in Europe), the bringing Keane home thing is just some hopeful Mancs and some rags churning out easy click bait stories.

The lad has his head very screwed on and apparently is very open to the idea of joining us. Which for his career would be a very good move - not like we havent got a good track record with players getting into the England team (especially defenders) - Jagielka, Lescott, Stones, Baines
Think it was Ray Wilkins on talksport who said this week, he should sign for us over United as he'd be guaranteed game time and the lad wants to play and it would be a good career move for him.

And no better manager for a young CB to learn from in Koeman.
As much as I admire guardiola's achievements as a manager, would john stones have developed more this year if he had played under koeman with us? I'm only saying that as I don't any improvement under stones this season. Keane is already a good player, he'd become even better learning from koeman.

VVD improved massively after a poorest start and stones would be immense under Koeman

Moving to a team who have already deemed you not good enough once before and let you go, to a manager who doesn't seem to favour English players unless they are absolutely top quality and who is by all accounts bombing 2 English centre backs out the club who at the same age Keane is now where both England internationals and who are still only 25 and 27 respectively (Jones and Smalling)

Absolutely! He would've be learning from one of the best!

IF VVD goes to either City or the rs (don't see that happening) then i reckon he will be regarded as a bit of a flop, he seems to need that strong manager who knows how to get the best out of him as a defender (he'd do well at us or Chelsea mind)

Koemans perfect for him and given that we are reportedly after him leads me to believe Virgil wants to work with Koeman again. I agree excellent defender but still prone to lapses. Needs a strong character to keep improving. With an added bonus of pissing soton fans off I'm all for it

We will be after him, just how much pull koeman and their now shared agent has will decide it.

...Stones' form had dipped with us anyway, I think he's been better of late after a very shaky introduction. I think you make a valid point that the grass isn't always greener but players want to join these more glamorous clubs for football and financial reasons. We'll know we're in the mix when our best players want to stay.
