I still think Thomas Vermaelen might happen, the links to him were from clued up and normally reliable journos and i have a bad feeling i can't shake off that we'll sign Andy Carrol. He's the type of target man Koeman wants and is probably available seeing as those cheeky Hammers have sign Javier Hernández. Dear god let me be wrong!

Imagine - We would have to pay more than the £35 million that the RS did.

We generally try to avoid stories like “Odds slashed for X to sign for Y” on this blog, but an interesting one has just arrived, suggesting that a lot of money has been wagered on RB Leipzig centre-forward Timo Werner to join Everton. Given Leipzig probably wouldn’t have time to sign a replacement and they’re gearing up for a season in the Champions League, combined with their stance on Naby Keita, it would take one hell of a wedge to make that happen.

Just posted on the Guardia. Almost certainly nonsense as they say....

Don't think Carroll is a possibility, just had his home decorated in Essex.

I still think you're taking that comment too literally mate rather than in the concept of his overall post. And in fairness I don't think he was ever referring to the Ronaldo's and Messi's of his world. But some people on here think we should be able to attract other "established" £50m players which I don't have an issue with. It's when they have a go at the club should that player choose the likes of Chelsea or Juventus over us that I don't understand.
No I know what he was saying, we've already discussed it further since then.

You might get the odd one who thinks we should be able to sign whoever but they're very few and far between. In the main nobody has really complained about us not getting Morata/Lacazette etc because we appreciate where we are. I know we've had the conversation before though that Moshiri's comments about having no restrictions and bidding £60m for defenders was always likely to backfire if we couldn't back it up. Truth is a £50m striker should be well within our means if that's true. While not all players can be swayed with cash, an awful lot can. We're not so far down the tiers that a quality player can't be tempted here in the right circumstances, no PL club is.

Would sign Timo Mallet at this point in time if he scored goals for us !

That would just be ultimate Everton. Wait until the last minute to try and sign a striker knowing full well that his club have no intention of letting him go.

"We tried..."

Probably nonsense like, why get Timo Werner when we could get Okaka? :(

Progress
Diego Costa's return to Atlético Madrid inches closer to reaching a conclusion as Chelsea and Atlético Madrid representatives met on Wednesday to finalise a deal worth 43 million euros and 11 million in add-ons.

Fernando Llorente's imminent arrival at Chelsea edges Costa closer to Los Rojiblancos, with the Premier League club requiring the transfer money to invest in three new additions before the transfer window closes. The Brazilian-born Spain international left Atlético for The Blues in 2014, managing an impressive return of 58 goals and 24 assists in 120 games in London.

Options
With Atlético's transfer ban upheld until January, Costa has a number of options open to him in the meantime. The first is to remain at Atlético to train with his future team-mates, and the second is a loan deal, with clubs such as Everton, Besiktas and Las Palmas already showing interest in utilising the player's goalscoring prowess and presence.
